CR 500 engine Performance Mods ?

very cool!,he has put out some fun videos to watch.Hopefully we get a winter here in the Sierras. The lake is down almost 8 ft.The fires here in Cali are filling the Tahoe basin with smoke and people have lost homes and live stock. Some things gotta change soon.Thx for your info on your bike:face-icon-small-coo

If you are in Cali I think gss should be at the top of you list because you can just go there ... That guy there is in his 70s and lives and breathes the cr500. If you are ever in utah you can come and try mine out

I am 8 hrs from SLC,have driven to go ski the Bird but its been a while. If you guys get a winter and we continue with more drought i would come that way to ride.Where is GSS located?

My Cr500 was basically a stock rebuild last year with a pipe and 38mm PWK carb. For as basic a build as it was I was totally impressed with the bike even stock. This year I am going to freshen the engine up and maybe have Adam do a mild port job on the top end. I will likely also pulse inject the carb. I've ridden SB's bike and the difference between his and mine is how smooth his motor is and how fast it accelerates. It has gobs of power down low. The top speed of the two bikes are very close but his gets there much quicker and like I said before its so smooth after the pulse injection.

If you can afford the bill Adam builds an extremely nice motor with the twirp porting but regardless I'd pulse inject.

[when you say smooth are you referring to no vibration? Is it four stroke smooth? If that's the case I'd be interested in going back to a 500

I can tell you this on the vibe front.. I spent a long time last year chasing the problem ... When I ride someone's af I started to realize it was not the porting it was the bolts stretched over the years to the point when they look tight... ie tightens to the end of the threads the bolt was actually stretched out..!so using washers and new boots made a drastic difference... Now is it worse than my 300 of course... Is it tolerable for 7 hour rides yes. For mine the vibes are better when I am in the 4000 to 5000 rpm range.. I think making sure the crank is balanced to where you ride in the power band is huge...

I talked to Adam Millar today on the phone about the moter build I want to do. He was very helpful and knows his 500's.Will be sending out cases and cylinder after I dissemble moter next week. Plan is full twirp porting, and comp release for head or cylinder.

Also talked to Ron McCord on his pulse injection intake manifold and carb set-up.Should be a fun project.:biggrin1:
