Cost of owning a 900

I recently purchased an 05 Fusion 900 and love it. When I bought it it was completely bone stock with all the updates done. I have been told that these things are a money pit and I understand that and am willing to put the money into it to make it an awesome sled. My question is after all of the repairs, updates, performance, and maintenance repairs are done, what does it cost to keep these things running at their best from year to year?
Since I bought mine I've repaired/added SLP shock tower vents, torque arm and push stop, timbersled intake, clutch balanced, bought 08 spindles,

Plans for next summer: Swap out old pistons for 06's and maybe get a new crank kit or one of indydans builds (depends on the funds) Compfusion motor mounts, billet crossmember (If I can find one) and motion pro throttle cable.

I am open to suggestions on what else should be done.
Thanks guys

balance your primary every season if you go over 1000 miles that season...or at least every 2 years... indydan charges $135

new fuel filter every season, check clutch bushings, new clutch springs every season

if you need a billet crossmember let me know...i can get you hooked up with one..send me a or Franz on here a PM ;)

Thanks, I'm looking to get one as I have read that the stock ones tend to break. I won't be needing it until next summer though when I pull my motor if they are still available.

about $300 a year, not counting updates. I invested about $1000 every year on upgrades and maintenance and I have had the sled since it was new and it has never broke down. Definitely send your primary to Indy Dan like Guido said, check your intake boots for cracks and then go from there on the upgrades.

I actually just replaced my intake boots as they were starting to crack. I tried something different with the new ones. I put reflective heat tape on them to try and keep them from cracking. Not sure if this will work or just hide the cracks. I will keep an eye on it. I wish there was some type of shield to protect them from the manifold. From what I read these sleds don't really need too much work to make them reliable, its just costly. I think I have most of it done, just need to upgrade the motor components. Thanks for the info guys. I just had my clutch balanced by a guy on HCS by the name of xcr1250. Don is his name and he does good work and is fast. He got my clutch on a Saturday, finished it on Sunday, and had it shipped out on Monday, what a guy! I had it back in no time. He fixed my sticking problem, inspected everything, shimmed it for the 115 belt and all for only $57, $25 of that was to balance it. Since I have joined snowest I see that everyone on here recommends indydan. He sounds like a great guy and I hope I can squirrel away enough money for one of his crank builds this summer. Then I should be in good shape.

You and Seth probably have 2 of the most reliable 900's around lol.... and it makes me sick. You dont want to know what my "cost to own a 900" was a few of the past years!

Other than standard maintenance AFTER the sled has been properly setup - little more than gas, oil, and a lunch for the ride:D:D

Thats great to hear. The only down side will be that I will no longer have anything to work on after it is all done. Guess I will have to start saving and buy another Fusion and start fixing it up. Would make a great gift for my dad, heck of an upgrade from his 80 Ski Doo Everest 500. If only I had the money. Haha

There are always more upgrades to be done. Better suspension is a big one. I have Timbersled on mine. Turbo if you really want to get crazy. Indydan's TM3 crank, 06 pistons ASAP.

I got two 05's with stock cranks still. I have the 975 turbo now because my 900's are to reliable. :face-icon-small-ton

Just curious? What better suspension setup are you talking about. My sled has Walker Evans all the way around. How much do you know about them? Are they reliable?

For a fusion, I wouldn't know. WE are good shocks.

For RMK's we have Timbersled, Holz, K-Mod, Fabcraft, and there are probably a few more I don't know about.

I was just curious. Don't really do any hardcore riding. Just cruising through the fields behind my house and every now and then some trail riding so my suspension will work just fine for me.

On the trail is where I love my suspension the most. The floats soak up every bump.

Any ideas on a good can that will work with the stock pipe and not require a reflash? Mine still has the stock suitcase and I've seen that most have gotten rid of theirs.

Skins, Dynoport, CPI Stinger (extremely Loud), SLP (these seem to crack out all the time), MBRP, etc, etc.....

No cans require a reflash. Only the SLP pipe requires a reflash and I don't recommend it. Go with Dynoport if you want to pipe your fusion.

Hey thanks, I'm looking for something maybe just a little louder but not too much. So you are saying almost any can will work but you recommend dynoport?

I would rather see someone install 06 pistons before buying a can.

Reliability vs. dropping a little weight?

Trust me Pistons are definitely more important than a can to me. Just looking at options right now, getting some ideas together. Getting the pistons out and new 06's in is my main priority. Thanks for your concern though.

Dynoport or Skins Can for reliability and a sound that is not overly obnoxious.

06 PISTONs, CLutch balance, and intake boots before you do anything else!!!!
