Cost of a new engine?

So I have a hole in my crankcase and am getting a new engine for my Pro this week. Luckily, it is covered under warranty. Just wondering what the cost is on those bad boys. I thought I saw a price online at 4300?:face-icon-small-sho

Hope not because my friend that I ride with every weekend just had his go down Saturday and Polaris "lost the paperwork" where he purchased the extended motor warranty. It really sucks that they still can't build a reliable motor. Between that and my tunnel folding in half for no apparent reason I am really finding it difficult to justify ordering another even lighter sled from Polaris next year even as much as I love my sled.

Yeah, I am with you. I love the way my sled handles and how it performs. I just am not impressed with the reliability. All my issues have been covered under warranty, and to be honest it has run well 90-95 percent of the time. It is just the other 5-10 percent that sticks out in your mind. So far it is looking like the same thing happened to mine that others have had problems with on here. (Cylinder Skirt) I wonder at what point Polaris has to take a hard look at what they have going. You would think that if it was a huge problem, the warranty work would just kill them in the long run. I try to take it with a grain of salt though, it seems like every brand has their own particular set of problems. One reason why I try to have a warranty, and keep it stock.

Once warranty runs out and guys keep having their engines fail... I think we'll see a bit more distaste for Pol's engines..

Most everyone has been taken care of under warranty thus far...and thats great...but still seems to be a deeper root to this cause, which will bite again at some point, and at that point will cost the owner big.

My bill would have been ~$3000 for parts alone. And I didn't lose the case. If it wasn't warrantied, it'd prob be parts instead...

Aftermarket and refurb will obviously be more cost effective when it falls to the owner to buck up.

Well, I found out the engine is $3,700, not including labor to install. If I keep my sled this year I do believe I will be getting some additional warranty. How could you afford not to?

doesn't surprise me if you are dealing with the polaris in belgrade. they are a bunch of crooks. If you get mad enough about it and want to do something through the legal system, let me know!

if htey aren't going to warranty it, **** them! Have it done somewhere else. I think CMX has a few engines left. they are CFI-4 but you can swap the parts over from yours. Give them a call! Hell if you want me to do it, i would do fit for cheep just to take businuss away from gallatin recreation.

What about your friends copy? did he lose his too? My tunnel folded in half at 300 miles.... they replaced it. whos your dealer???

My 2011 800Pro went down at 1300 miles, piston skirt went out on me ended up on the case and ended up cracking the case...catastrophic engine failure. Fortunately Polaris warrentied my engine despite being a month out of warranty! I SALUTE Polaris for doing so but now I'm paranoid, and scared to ride the thing. The total bill was 6,000$ with 2 Reeds and a new throttle sensor including a spanking new small block. Don't know if I should sell while she runs or ride it till she seizes again.

Wondering if it was your piston skirt of cylinder skirt? Looks like it has happened to a couple of folks out there. I totally understand how you feel about the sled now too. If I dont get a new sled, I am definitely purchasing more warranty. I feel like I am riding a ticking time bomb. I had some problems with mine early on, then it ran great for 1300 miles. The love hate relationship continues...

My experience with Polaris West (a Loomis owned dealership) has been exactly the opposite of yours with Gallatin Rec. I can only speak from my own experience. Not only will Polaris West have a new engine installed this week, they gave me an 800 rmk to ride will mine was down. They have done this for me numerous times. They have gone above and beyond what most dealers would do in many instances for me. They are open 7 days a week during peak season, and they always seem to have the parts I need, or can get them pretty quick. They have taken parts from sleds off the showroom floor to get me up and running before. I will make the drive down there to do business with them as long as I own a Polaris. I am sorry you have had such a tough time with Gallatin Rec, they have a little different mindset it seems.

He's working on finding his paperwork but unfortunately we don't all always hold onto those things. I am going to look into having my tunnel warrantied but I'm not too optimistic. I've been pretty happy with my dealer just wish Polaris could make these motors last and would build a 420 lb sled that doesn't fold in half on impact instead of a 417 lb sled.

any mechanical device can fail....with that said, the poo engines seem to have more than their fair share of failures....warranties are economically great to have when honored, and poo seems to do a good job with these problems....having a sled go down for a couple of weeks during peak season is very disheartening, but having it go down in some powder hole canyon 30 miles from the trail head influences me to not buy one because the warranty doesn't come fetch the sled, and it's beyond my ability to haul an engine out on a backpack and replace it in the field...i do like riding the pro however...but $hit polaris, it's been what, 5 years, and we still have to put up with this inferior piece of crap ???? how can u make good 600 and 700 engines, and fail so miserably with your 8s' ???? frustrating to have such a great chassis and not be able to buy one because of poorly enginered/produced engines....now that i've said how i really feel, the disappointment rant is over...:lips::lips::lips:

Motor sucks!

Agree with all you guys. Love the ride, but don't think I can deal with these crap motors any longer!!! Had an 08 Dragon and was on 3rd motor at 1900 miles. (just heard a few days ago that it crapped out again on new owner at 2500 miles). My Pro has only 1050 miles and it has been back and forth to the shop since the beginning of December, trying to resolve the issue. Currently having an entire new top end installed. Been in the shop since 3rd of Feb, Poo sent out the wrong parts twice in a row!!! I have put less than 100 miles total on the Pro this winter, which really sucks!!! In the past 3 years, I have had a total of 5 winter months that I could not ride, because sleds were in the shop with engine problems. Totally unacceptable in my books!!! Spent big money on 2 new Polaris machines in 4 years (about $26,500 Cdn + taxes) and have had a full season worth of downtime because they cannot build a decent motor.

Sure, the warranties have covered the repairs, with the exception of hundreds I have spent in gas travelling back and forth to dealer which as an hour away, but the warranty doesn't help much when I can't even ride the new machine I own!!! Winter is way too short to have the amount of downtime I have experienced since riding Polaris machines.

Polaris, time to get your crap together, or I will be switching over to a new ski doo. Hate to give up the great handling, but willing to sacrifice a little just to have a reliable motor. Tired of sitting at home while my buddies are out riding...:face-icon-small-fro

Huh, from all I read on here I thought the Pro's were indestructible...... See there engines still haven't changed you can have the lightest sled on the snow but if the engine doesn't hold up don't do you any good.. Give me the 4-stroke turbo Cat any day.....

I switched from a skidoo to a pro this year, and had a cylinder skirt break on my pro while on a 4 day trip trip to revelstoke. I was an hour into our trip on the first day and the sled went down in the bottom of sugar bowl, in the deepest snow I have ever been in...good thing we had a couple turbos to help drag it out. I thought the pro was suppose to be reliable, but apparantly this has been a common prob on them....needless to say I'm not sure which way I will go next year, but leaning towards a new skidoo...sucks cause I do like how the pro handles.

x2 polaris west is awsome. they gave me a free ski loop for my sled this summer when i was working on the new road project out past the old airport.

Holy crap this thread is depressing

If you think this thread is depressing, I have rode less than 100 miles this winter because my Pro has running issues, and the solution has eluded the techs and Polaris engineers all winter...Sure hope it works again after the new top end. Will be picking it up tonight or tomorrow.
