coolant loss with RK tek head

Every time I run my RK tek head on my 07 summit 800R, I loose coolant. 1/2 bottle in 4 days of riding.

Anyone else have this issue? When I put the stock head back on, no more coolant loss.

I also seem to have a lot of lower rpm pinging going on. It cleans up at full throttle. I am running 13 to 1 domes at 1000 to 2000 ft elevation.

It seems like the computer is retarding timing at full throttle and I can't get over 8000 rpms even when I lower pin weight from 22.5 to 21 grams and go from clicker 3 to clicker 4. Any ideas?

I had the same problem with one on a 08 xp. I took it on and off 5-6 times and every time it would leak. It was not leaking out the top it was leaking in to cylinder and burnign the coolant. I talk to kelsey every time it was leaking and he always said I was putting it on wrong or pinching a gasket. but when I put stock one on or slp no problem. finally just sent it back to him

I've used a number of the RKT heads and never had one leak. Not sure what to tell you other than make sure its installer correctly. On the pinging side I did have a problem with the knock sensor going off and retarding the timing. If you do a search you see a numbe rof guys with aftermarket heads who have a problem with the knock sensor. First make sure you are getting good gas. Most cure the problem by putting a rubber washer under the knock sensor.

If you can get access to a granite surface plate with the domes out put some 220 grit metal sanding paper on the plate sprayed with WD-40 and sand the head and see if you have any high and low spots. I had one that was very low in the center, never could get rid of it completely but no leak problems. Was very impressed after this with my own old fashioned machining of heads with my Bridge Port mill. You always need to check stuff like this even if its CNC'd. After that check domes and how they sit in the head.

Good Luck

Mine is going the other way. I am getting poluted antifreeze from the cylinder pressure blowing in to the water jacket. O-rings appear course on the top side.

Also, the bolts continually leak fluid.

Not happy at this point.

I found out that the cover lets the dome move a bit allowing for leakage. I went back to stock head and put the RKT in the scrap pile. I fought it for weeks
