Coolant bottle turning black inside???

My coolant bottle in my 2012 pro 800 has been getting really black and dirty inside? I'v looked at a few other sleds and none of them look dirty at all, any ideas???

Black bottle

Usually an indication of leaking head o-ring. Does it build pressure in the bottle too? If the o-rings leak you can push oil into the cooling system from the combustion chamber.

The coolant itself dosnt look like it has oil mixing in it, it actually looks pretty clean when i pulled some out but there was a carbon like powder on the inside of the bottle you can see where I wiped some off on the inside of the bottle with my finger.

Yep, pressurized leak from the engine into the coolant system. Likely could just be getting exhaust blown into it, and alot of times you wont notice the "milky" oil in coolant appearance that you'd expect.

Edit: and i would get it checked out asap, without riding anymore.

The plastic of the bottle itself darkens because Poo didn't spec a good anti-oxidant be used in the plastic (yeah, I sell those, you cheap bahstads at Poo!) but if it's an actual film, then yeah, time for new head gaskets.

Have FUN!

Totally forgot about this issue but my friend had it happen on his 2011 last year and I noticed it. There was oil in his coolant very clearly. Told him to immediately have the dealer look at it. They said Polaris was aware of the issue and had seen it several times but had no solution. This is the same friend that lost his motor this weekend. Perhaps I better check mine, thanks for the reminder!

Of course polaris would say its an issue, and then blow it off as nothing. Hopefully your friends dealer wasnt dumb enough to think nothing of it and send him riding! If so, thats clearly what could have caused his problem. If a dealer sees whats pictured above, they immediately should know it atleast needs new head gaskets, and probably all new top end gaskets. Without even doing any testing, pulling apart, cleaning and installing new gaskets and seals for this symptom will almost always cure this problem.

Do you remember what the cause was???

Digging up old thread here, but searching as my 14 600 SBA has this same issue. It's at the dealer but any info I can give them might help me get it back and save my holidays.

My dealer told me it was assembly lube and to keep riding it. It blew up a few weeks later. Warranty covered it but it ran like a POS when they gave it back and service guy said it was cause I put a 3'' track on. I laughed and changed a bunch of parts myself before landing at another dealer (M&M performance) where they went to bat for me getting me some money back for the parts I had bought with my own money. Mad props to those guys!

I've seen this discoloration on a few '12's now. I think Gman (once again) is right.
