Coming down to Cooke City for new years! Wondering whose has brought race fuel or av gas across the border, is it a problem? Am i better to buy it there? Also wonder wat the elevations are of the ridng areas, i think i read the town is at 7600ft and u just ride frm town to the hill? Never been down, so any help is apreciated! THX

you will have a blast in Cooke over that weekend for sure!

Cooke City Motorsports does sell race fuel and I'm not sure if the Exxon sells it. (price?)

The elevation of town is around 7600 and yes you do ride from your motel room to play spots. once you leave town you climb elevation, I would say most of your riding spots are around 9k' I think that a couple of spots you can peak out at 10K.

Hope this does it for you, Have fun!

i was just in town,awesome place.very friendly locals from what we could tell.stayed at the antlers lodge and it was good.the race gas at the yamaha dealer is $9.00 a gallon so you might want to look at bringing your own.---jim

also, we drove in and will never do that again.park in the parking lot and bring a big plastic sled to pull your chit into town.it will save you some valuble time.:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

The Exxon and the AC Yammy shop both sell race gas and nitrous. Im sure they both sell for the same price. It really probably depends on how much you are going to use. If you only mix a gallon or two a day in, then maybe save yourself the pain and just buy there everyday. If your running straight race gas youll probably want to bring your own.

The guys from Minnesota country tell me it only saves 1/2 or even 1 hour at the most by the time you load all your gear on the sled and drive into town. I think I'd rather have my truck and trailer in town vs. 30 minutes extra time.

im back and forth on this one what's up iv heard faster to park and ride in but then you need a wyoming sled sticker? 25$ each sled? and are you going to be riding in wyoming after you get to Cooke? if you drive around its Thur the park and you need a park pass for truck? how much? it sound like the benefits of driving are better? but will there be room on new years for all them rigs in Cooke? HELP never been to Cooke and not sure what we are going to do drive in? or sled in? :beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

The town will be packed and it is hard to find a place to park but not impossible. I have always parked the rig and ride the sleds in. Once you get to town all of your riding will be in MT but there has been times where I have gone back to my rig in the parking lot (WY) and the WY guys are sitting their ticketing everybody that comes through that dont have the WY permit. It has taken some of my friends an extra 2 hrs to go through the park but the roads sucked from a current storm at the time. Half dozen one/ 6 another as far as riding your sled or driving around. For me it boils down too, do I want the rig in town or save some drive time. I always vote for saving drive time. If its storming I have been better off on average to go this route also. Its only 8 miles on the trail to get to town. Hope this helps.

we have done the trip both ways and it really isn't that much time savings maybe 45 minutes to park and ride. The park does offer some cool critters though if you are into seen that stuff?

Depends on how much fuel you're bringing across. I've never brought more than 15 gallons and have never had a problem.

Were stayin at sum place with moose in the name i think, but just need to know or who to ask if bringing fuel across is a problem at all. Usually run a 50/50 mix here in canada, probably just leave the nitrous at home! THX

If you pull into the parking lot and don't have a WY sticker you can still be fined. 1st time out last year and I got a warning. Went straight to town and bought mine. I didnt even have my sled off the trailer yet.

so i keep hearing this about wyoming! and you only need that sticker to get from truck to town? thats bs!!

Wyoming grooms the trail for a couple of miles while it's still on the Wyoming side, so I guess they want you to pay for the smooth ride. Honestly, I'm a local, so I always done the park and ride in so I don't know which way is better to get to town. I've just been repeating what some Minnesota guys told me.

If i was you i would just drive to the parking lot and ride in. The place you are staying at is called the The big moose right? They are out of town a little bit actually and you wouldn't be able to have your truck there they are right of the side of the trail on the way to town from the parking lot. If you do ride the sleds into town be careful that trail burns lots of sleds down because the elevation you start at is lower. Just watch your mid range blurp the throttle into town.
