There was a fatal avalanche in Cooke City Near LuLu Pass. sounds like it was a guy from Billings. More details should be coming out today or tomorrow.
These have been predicted for a month. We have had many near misses on fatalities in the avy reports. Things have been slipping and sliding for most of this winter in the Gallatins. One comment on the forecast is the bottom 18inches of snow is surface hoar. GARBAGE SNOW.....ie no base to build on
We need to take the avy forecast and use it for what it says. we have a raised Avy danger across most of the western US. If you dont know what this means take an avy class to find out how to read the snow and also the fine points about the avy forecast.
