considering the move!

im currently riding a 2002 rmk 700, 144 i live in minnesota but i like the long track just because its a fun ditch bangin sled. lately tho i was looking at maybe switching to yamaha, and my first consideration was the phazer mtx, mostly cause they look pretty sweet and i like the idea of the 4stroke, my 700 sucks gas like theres no tomorrow so thats really my biggest reason for switching, im wondering what are some simple things i can do to it for more performance, obviously pipe, and turbo, but im confused. ive tried to look at them before and not sure what kind it needs, or stuff like that. any tips or options for me would be great, im likely to buy next fall, and hoping to have it all figured out what im going to do by then, thanks in advance, chris

if you like the power of the 700, i would not think you would be happy with a phazer mtx. at 80 hp it will be enemic at best for most adults. to get it where you would want it to be you would have to bost it (turbo or super charger), right from the get go. and this would add an enormous cost to the sled purchase. i would think if you wanted to go 4 stroke, the nytro mtx (153") or xtx (144") would be more powerwise like your current 700. then later if you desired more hp you may want to boost it. just my .02 ski

I agree. You will most likely not be hapy with the power output on the Phazer MTX unless you add boost. IMO a better option is the Nytro XTX. It has a 144 with 1.25 lugs. It will also be much more impressive in the power department. It will be a better all around sled and is less likely to cook the hyfax on the trails since it has shallower lugs. There is definitely a price difference between the Nytro XTX and the Phazer MTX but by the time you spend the cash to get the Phazer where you want it power wise. You will have likely spent as much or even more on it than you would the Nytro. Just my 2 cents

but

i was considering that, basically the nytro is where a phazer would be at if it was boosted? how cheap can someone put a turbo on a phazer for, i was looking at a couple places online and the ones i could find prices for seemed to be around 5k, does that sound right? i guess i like the look of the phazer more than i do the nytro, but they both are great looking sleds, im just tired of having to put out for gas and oil for my rmk, and yamaha seems to have the 4stroke market under the belt as for understanding the tech.

Probably 6k + to boost the Phazer, by the time you get everything you need. A buddy has one, and it does run well, once dialed in. Down side is he has to run race fuel in it, and it drinks it down pretty good! ($$$)

Come on over

I'd have to agree with MTN_VIPER. By the time you get the clutching redone, install, labor rates and paying for the turbo you're easily looking @ 6K. That's for a pretty basic setup too. Add the race gas in and you're looking @ adding an easy 500-1K in fuel. Boosted sleds are the chit! Nothing compares, just have to be ready to pay for it. Maybe look @ buying a used boosted Phazer, Nytro or Apex? With the supposedly new lineup(Apex) replacement showing up in 2010, there will be some pretty sweet sleds out there. The Nytro stock might be the answer you're looking for. Looking forward to seeing you on the dark side:-)

think ive made up my mind

i was finally able to get into the yamaha site tonight, must have been down this afternoon or something. i checked out the nytro and thats what im thinking im going to go with this fall, hopefully i can get enough for my rmk where itll bring it down to where the phazer would have been, anyone on here sold stuff in the swapmeet before, i never have but i was considering trying that, im sure i can get more for it than i would at the dealership here in town. its really clean, has the low windshield and pro taper bars on it, not sure how well they would work in the mountains (havent had the opp to go myself yet) but hoping to maybe next season if i can afford it!
