Conoco phillips can kiss my arse!

I live in Farmington NM which is near the four corners and smack dab in the middle of one of the largest natural gas feilds in the US. Conoco Phillips is the primary player in the local oil and gas industry. Lately they have been simply handing out pink slips to all the local service vendors and telling them they are done with little or no notice. This has meant many hundred lost jobs and a near halt to all non essential projects. Just what this area needed in an already troubled economy. The thing that pisses me off is that these are not simply cost saving measures .It looks to be one of those "brother in law" deals. It seems a company called P.A.C from Texas is taking over all of this work.Of the many people I have spoken to none have ever heard of this company. Bottom line this is bankrupting dozens of local business' and maybe my own in the process as I service the industry as do most of the shops and business' in town in one way or another! What a bunch of ruthless pricks to treat people the way they have ! I for one will never spend one dime in any of there staions if i can help it. I dearly hope that when things come back around that my felow business people will treat them as kindly as the have been treated !:mad:I know if the come into my shop I will not hesitate to double the price just for them! Just another example of greedy corporate azzholes ****eing on the little guy! RANT JUST GETTING STARTED!!!!

Wow, how unusual - energy companies acting like a-holes, what are the odds.

Someday someone will develop energy sources where individual households can be self sufficient and those bastardz can choke on their oil & gas.

You should see how they jack individual land owners on leases.

Welcome to the oilfield.

Study up on any other boom, they all go bust due to greed. Greed of the players, greed of the companies, greed of the customer, etc.

This P.A.C. probably offered C-P a killer contract if they went exclusive with them. Sometimes it is better for the company to source from other places then local. Hate to say it, but locals tend to be a bit more expensive when it comes to supplies.

Here is some food for thought:

Oilfield Money pt. 1
Oilfield Money pt. 2

I know that up in Northern BC there has been an major reailgnment of gas contractors. If you charged too much, didn't follow rules, take advantage of billing etc. you were unceremoniously dumped. If you were honest and did the work, you stayed on. The issue is there may be 10 layers of contractors on a well site. The higher up you are on the list, the more money you make from the ones below.
I'm not saying that this is the case with CP. Just saying what is happening up here.

Sorry fellas But I personally know several of the local companies are among the most reputable businesses you will find anywhere and the have just plain been screwed. Some good freinds of mine own a roustabout service and have since long before I was born! The were told they will no longer be working for Cononco last thursday.

Supplicate ou are right about the boom/ bust cycle in the oilfeild and I dont need to read on that one I LIVE IT! Seen this all before ecept in the past the big corporations did not intentionally pull the rug out from under people like CP is ! I do agree that some of the herd needed to be culled but this has gone way to far. I look forward to when the pendulum swings the other way and CP needs contractors that aren't their anymore!

Good day. I have worked in the Alberta oilpatch for over 25 years and have seen many of the Big oil companies treat the service companies like crap. Seems like the small oil companies may be better to deal with. One of the biggest changes i have seen is the fact that it no longer matters if you do a better job than the competition. If someone is cheaper, they get the work. The patch is dead in Alberta right now and i know a lot of people will not return to the oilpatch if they find a job that pays a reasonable wage. Maybe it will get so busy again that the big players will be happy just to have someone willing doing the job.

It's a fine balance between keeping the local contractors and operating costs ... and operating costs are generally speaking HUGE. It amazes me what it actually costs for an operating company to operate.

It sucks *** any way I look at it, I agree, but considering the entire economy is in the ****ter and president save the world is hell-bent on nationalizing the oil industry, operating companies are having to cut costs anywhere they can. They have to to remain in business.

If I'm not mistaken, CoP just posted some pretty staggering losses, as did almost everybody ..

Like I said, I'm not trying to defend CoP, I'm just saying that they don't make decisions like that without weighing out all the consequences. They're not dummies ... With as much work as I'm guessing CoP gave everyone down there, I dbout it was a true-blue "Brother in law" deal ..

But then again, maybe it was? I don't know ...

I'm just saying, from my experience most operating companies do give preference to local vendors and suppliers and contractors, but when you can shave even %10 off your operating costs in times like these you HAVE to do it.

IMO, this is yet another reason NOT to vote for Democrats, they seem to think all your money belongs to them

It's really slammed everyone hard up here in Vernal too...I'm lucky I still have a job right now. Damn lucky. But the gravity of this situation is pretty heavy ... I bet there have literally been THOUSANDS of people just in little ol' Vernal laid off in the last 3 months.

I went to a local "energy meeting" where some local people are trying to form a group to take our case to the state legislature who has jumped on the "green energy fantasy bandwagon" ... there's a lot of pissed off people, and I don't blame them one bit, but the problem is, the government is basically trying to screw over any industry that isn't unionized.

I dunno dude this whole thing just suck d*ck any way I look at it :(

the gas patch in mt. is the same, as a oilfield contracter myself i try to keep my rates under the large oufits and keep a personal relationship with the company, hopefully i can pull it out by takin away units from the large outfits,
keepin my fingers crossed (and toes):)

Happens quite regular. I've seen it happen several times with Amoco/BP and Texaco pre-Chev-Tex.

Of all the companies I've ever had experience with, Conoco-Philips has always been one of the worst when it comes to contractor relations. They are right up there tied with BP.

I'm counting my lucky stars that I got into the project I'm part of right now; every flight home there is another 10-15 guys packing all their sh*t knowing they won't have a job back.

Yep, same here. Grew up in an oilfield contractor family, been living that life since I turned 18 as well. Always interesting growing up in the thick of a bust cycle and then listen to people ***** about what its like right now. At least there is still some production going on....

It hasn't gotten near as bad as it was in the early 80's .... yet.

All I know is I'm sure as **** not sticking around Wyoming/Utah/Colorado etc if it really gets that bad again....About all there is gonna be in the Rockies if president save-the-world has his way are jobs flipping burgers for tourists.

Maybe it's even worse than that this time around, I don't know. I just know I'm damn lucky to still have a job :o
