Compromise Suggestion

I have a suggestion for the Site Admin and Super Mods to consider. At this point, it may be too late but I am curious if it would be considered and whether other forum members think it's a good compromise.

By far the greatest disagreement with the paid membership is from people who feel that they built Snowest and that their contributions have been the foundation for the site. I can understand how people who have been here 11 years, or whose contributions often helped people repair their sled or mod their sled or learn to ride...I can see how those people would object to paying now. Particularly if they are paying to contribute knowledge or assistance.

Perhaps the Site Admin should consider retroactively offering long term members and/or highly technical contributors free memberships. New members and people that are here to learn (like me) still pay.

I would think that this would only offer free membership to a small group of deserving folks, so it shouldn't represent a financial hardship to SW. And certainly it's a blow to SW to lose these people to the other forums, because then a lot of the content that people like me are willing to pay to read will no longer be posted. I know that as a paying member, I would rather see those technically skilled folks be given free memberships and continue to contribute than to lose them from this forum.

Maybe this is too late, maybe the damage is done and those members won't return...but maybe not.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Take it or leave it, as you will.

Not a bad idea.
To that end I gave every moderator on SnoWest some free memberships to pass out as they saw fit.

Some chose members on their own, other's allowed their forum members to make the choice, and still others held various contests.

My feeling was that they were up close and in person in each of the individual forums and would be the best people to make this decision.

Many have not yet been awarded.

good idea

I think you hit the nail on the head Eagleriverdee. Alot of these guys have been on here over 10 years and now feel slighted, for various reasons. I kinda felt myself that being on here for years should have accounted for something. The guys that were very helpful and instrumental in building this site maybe should have gotten free passes, but now there gone. I counted on alot of info from guys that are no longer here, and Snowest Forums seems like a ghost town compared to previous years. I hope that this gets worked out, somehow.
