comparison pro vs. rmk

The RMK is only avail in the 155"... the PRO RMK is avail in 155" & 163".

Major Differences:

Standard RMK (STD) Has the front tunnel/bulkhead cooler.

Both have the same tracks.

Both have the same suspensions and rails, The pro has rebuildable Walker Evans shocks, the STD has the RYDE FX non rebuidable shocks.

The PRO RMK has PRO taper bars with a flat plate steering post stem as opposed to the pivot stem, aluminum pivot Risers with steel bars on the STD

Cosmetics.

The std has the switches for mode, hi/low headlights, separate thumb and 3 way grip heaters on the bars
The PRO has he switches for mode, hi/low headlights, Combo thumb/2-way grip heaters on the console.

The PRO has the alluminum "cyclone" brake master cylinder and vetillated brake rotor
The Std has the composite master integrated into the controls and a solid brake rotor.

The Pro has a hollow Jack shaft that sheds about 1.5 lbs.

The PRO/STD bumpers are the same EXCEPT that the PRO uses a carbon fiber tube

The PRO has a ported (ventillation holes) in the snow flap, the std has the same flap with no holes.

I just bought a 12 std RMK and i dont notice any diff in riding and i like the controls on the bars better, theres nothing i cant do on that, that i cant with a pro,my buddy has a pro and i do everuthing he does

Doesn't the RMK have a chain case too?

I never liked the controls on the bars. Bulky and always clogging up with ice. I prefer the Pro Tapers.

I will say that if you can find an RMK at a good price, you could strip the cooler, buy RSI bars and use the RSI kit to move the controls. I took off the WE's in favor of X1's anyway so the shocks don't count to me.

We have both with 2500 miles on the 2011 Pro and 2800 miles on the 2011 RMK.

Both sleds have been absolutely trouble free. The biggest difference to me is the shocks, so I replaced the Ryde FX on the RMK with new Walker Evans take offs from Carls Cycle.

I prefer the RMK handlebars and tunnel cooler. I put a 163" track on the RMK for about $150 out of pocket.

Both are great sleds, but to me the only noticeable difference was the shocks, JMHO.

Bug:

65pony was inquiring about an '11 and they both have chaincases. The '13 RMK still has the chaincase vs. the Pro's QD. I've got no complaints about my '13 RMK. The front cooler makes a big difference. No more watching the temp gauge all the time, even in hardpack/firm snow conditions which we currently have in our area at this time. Sure would be nice to get some freshy.

So this is what I found over the last few days out here in Idaho

As tested

My 13 155 pro, slp stage 2
2 - 13 155 standards, rentals as far as I can tell out of the box
13 standard proclimb 153
12 standard proclimb 153

Keep in mind my 13 just got the slp kit on it last week, so I know what it felt like in stock form (700+ miles as stock)

My 13 does pull harder, I'd say it felt like the equivalent of a few horse at most, when you factor in the difference of the stage kit, it pulls a lot harder, they say about 7 horse over stock form an I'd say that is the feeling I get

The standard doesn't seem to roll on the side as easy, nor does it stay there as easy, I fought with this for about 10 miles

I don't like the bars on the standard. I run a 3 inch riser on mine and the difference from the risen pro tapers to the lower standard bars made it hard for me to do what is normally an easy maneuver

The standards shocks are brutal. I tried some adjustments but the little amount that is possible leaves a hole. I dd a few rough trail miles and did some whoops in the powder and the sled did not respond or take the impact as well as the pro. I think the lack of adjustment to what Im used to compounded some of the handling differences

We did some swapping between all the sleds as a group and I made a point of asking the other riders what they liked and disliked of each sled, these were some of the comments, all coming from guys running 136 inch range sleds, and first time riders on mountain chassis

- I hate the bars on the standard, the set up on the pro makes you feel way more in control, the others are just to low, the cat bars are ok when raised

- the cats are all over the place, I can't seem to hold a line in the powder easily with them, the standard is easier, and the pro the easiest. I keep feeling like I'm going to smack a tree

- the 2012 cat is a piece of junk (adding my thought here, it was, the clutch sounded like it was going to come right through the hood), the 13 was better. I liked the top end power of 2013 cat but both polaris have a nicer smoother power all the way through

I love the response of your 13, it feels like a totally different animal over the rentals, that's a hell of a sled

I hate the polaris. I can't make them do anything Give me my XF highcountry back

I could likely get more thoughts on it all from the rest of the guys, but as of right now everyone's I'm bed
