Comparing XP's

S
3 friends and I rode here last week for 3 days on some decent snow for a change. All the sleds were XP's, 1 08' 154 and 3 09' 163's. The 154 was completely stock. The 1st 09' was totaly stock except for the "THING" can. The 2nd 09' had a complete SLP exhaust kit, and the third an SLP head and exhaust kit. I rode all 4 sled quite a bit both in boondocking conditions and in flat out drag pulls on an air strip. We rode from 5000 -8000 ft this trip. Here is what I found... The 08 had the least poop, or so it seemed. I don't think the 08 clutching was doing it any favors either in that regard. The 1st and second 09 seemed to run about the same as far as power was concerned. I have a feeling that the SLP exhaust kit may be more of a weight loss program than a power add-on for your sled. The sled with the most power was the one with the SLP head and full SLP exhaust kit. If I were to do it over again (my sled has the head and exhaust) I would be inclined to go with the SLP head and an HPS can. This can is small, light and it has a killer tone, I know because I have on on my wifes 08 and have had them on 2 other sleds. This would be the best bang for the buck if you are looking for the best power/ weight loss combo for the least amount of money as far as I am concerned. I must admit though if you are looking for the most NOISE for the money the "Thing" can will get you there all day long! Come on Turbo Al... what is your secret?

nice review...i cant wait to get out and finally ride my 09 for the first time this season...heading to the snowies next week...should be a blast :D

we see about the same results EXCEPT you will notice the head and pipe will show the difference in the powder climbs and in deeeep snow when it takes HP, thats where it counts --we see small gains drag racing but when the snow gets deep , that seperates the sleds with pipes and or heads---VE's wife rides a stock 09 and see jumped on his 09 with a pipe and head and said hers felt like a slug compared to that--:beer;:beer;

Drag racing is boring. You wanna drag, go get an MXZ and ride trails. The XP Summits are meant for deep snow and climbing.

I have an 09 154 with the SLP head and full exhaust set-up, substituting the SLP can for an HPS can. I have also added reeds. The sled flat out rocks! I have some minor clutching to do but riding 3 consecutive days in 2-3' of fresh snow and only one stuck (slammed on brakes to avoid diving into a creek bottom sinkhole. so that really doesn't count), I was really impressed.

BTW, I pulled about 1.25" of cord out of my 377 belt that I kept after totaling my 08. The belt had over 1000 miles on it. I imagine that I could probably keep running it, but I opted to change out. So that makes one replaced belt in a season and a half!

Hey PJ I have a similar setup with the slp head and CPI can.... Really like it... Gonna give it a true test on the Grand Mesa this weekend with my uncle BOHICA in Colorado!!!! What main jets you running and are you shimmed on your needles?? I'm running 490 on the main with a 6mm shim on the needle for half a position adjustment up..... I think that could be rich??? Especially at 8500-11000 elevation...... any input??

Don't worry PJ, we are using the XP's in the backcountry. These machines truly are in a class on there own. In fact I found a little creek myself, about took my sac off! 1 pull on the bunge and a handfull of throttle and out of the creek it went! Bad thing was my track grabbed 3 monster rocks and stuffed them up tight in the top of my tunnel. Had to take the suspention loose to get them out!
