Colorado Atving ?s

I am heading out to Colorado next week to go atving in Avon and Georgetown areas. Was wondering if there was anything that I should know about riding in these spots? I see that I have to get a non-resident permit does any one know if i can just pick one up at a local gas station? any info that you may know would be great THanks
