College Degree?

Does anyone on here feel like they made the wrong choice in their college degree? If yes, what did you do? I'm beginning to feel this way :(

At times I wish I'd done ChemE instead of MechE ...

*shrug*

Either way though, I'm not upset about getting an engineering degree....

It's paid off pretty well for me the last 3 years.

So are you doing simulation work in meteorology?

If so, it applies to a lot of engineering work. The basic science of Meteorology also applies itself to thermodynamics. Once your done, and making money, maybe you could go back to school, and get some science degrees that lend themselves to engineering. I know several physics majors, that do engineering work. There not that far apart.

You can take the EIT as a physics major if you put a little time in studying the specifics ....

I knew some Physics majors back in school who actually took a couple of MechE electives their Sr. year to actualy prepare them to take the EIT, all four of them passed it pretty easily....

I mean hell if you think about it, a MechE degree is basically just a more specialized general physics degree than an actual physics degree is .... You take a lot more broad scope of general physics stuff with a 4 year physics degree, whereas a MechE degree is basically just taking a specific class in each chapter of your Physics I book ;)

I have an eng degree and couldn’t be happier with my choice. I am also currently pursuing my MBA and those two degrees combined with my professional experience in design eng, mfg/lean eng, and now quality eng/mng I believe I will be very marketable in the future. From all the people in upper mng I have talked to, an eng degree opens a lot of doors, and the MBA will basically speed up the process of getting in an upper mng position, esp when you’re dealing with the manufacturing environment. Currently at the company that I work for which does just a little under a $ billion in sales, has 3 mfg locations, and around 6000 emp world wide…. Our CEO has an electrical eng degree, all our VPs of their respectable business units have degrees in elec or mech eng, and 3 of our 5 plant mngs have engineering degrees. Our CEO is making $300k +, the VPs are making $200K+, and our PM are making $100K+. I should add that all of them have at least 10 years with the company with the exception of 2 PM.

Any degree is better than no degree IMO. My undergrad is in accouting and I've been in sales ever since, the degree has paid big dividends.
