ok i went riding this weekend to get up this morning to -30 by the time i got to the unloading area it was up to -23.. so i go to crank it over and all i get was about 8-10 seconds of cranking and the battery dies!!!!!!!! fuk
so i boost it off my truck start cranking and nothing! i tried spraying starting fluid in the air cleaner nothing!! take the intercooler off spray into the throttle bodies still nothing!!!! so i drive back home 5 hrs and put it in my shop for a hr, crank it for 3 seconds with a shot of ether and bang it fires and runs good!!!! what a piss off:mad:...
so what is everone doin to prevent this....... thanks SP

Have to run pump gas and turn boost down.:( Mine is hard starting with just straight 110 in cold weather. You are hard core to ride when it is that cold. Plastic seems to break to easy in this weather.

If you know its gonna be cold I suppose a guy could leave the tank empty and start and warm it up on a few litres of pump gas then fill er up with 116 and ride.

back to basics

why not install the yammy block heater for $40?

run it from an inverter from the truck on the way to unload and fire right up? I can't guarantee results but I betcha my last Kokanee that it works!:D

Good luck, hope it works

Didn't know there was one...I like it...Stray...buy Piston some :beer;:beer;:beer;...LOL

yeah, just get a magnetic block heater they make for cars, stick it to the lower end of the block and run it off a power inverter in the truck or trailer if it has a batter in it.

this should help, if the oil is all heated she should start much better. those things are cheap to. i wanna say like $40 bucks as well and you need a power adapter, but for the price of your sled, $100 bucks to keep it starting doesnt seem like an issue.

I put a smaller battery in mine this year and wondered the same thing. Although -23 is insane. Can you leave the heater on in the enclosed trailor for a few hours and get her warm that way?

This is what I do for running C16 (which is all I run) and it works perfectly.

not all of our wives have bought us a enclosed trailer yet transporter

Yah I posted that for 10 seconds, then I thought Stray had an enclosed mabye not though. My now wife pretty much kicked me out of the house when I came home with the old Charmac she wasnt happy. At least I had somewhere to put my stuff once I picked it up off the lawn.

magnets stick to aluminum?

I'm assuming that's -30 C, but -22 F is still cold. I start the heater in the trailer for the same reason and I'm only burning 112

You can silicone those heat pads to aluminum blocks and oil tanks. I'm just dragging my butt finishing our sleds while it's cold. Should be done by the time the cold snap passes (fingers crossed). Maybe it's just that I'm getting older but once it starts to dip below about -20C the fun factor starts to dwindle. When I was younger it didn't bother me as much when it was almost -30C, I still have the frozen patches to prove it, LOL.

im sure there is some ferrus metal in there somewhere, the magnets are freakin strong, heck you could just lay that thing in there against it and it would probably help out, worst thing you could do is return it.

i know some people on here aint so smart, but im sure you oculd figure out a way to make it work, and work well.

I'm curious WTF are you doing with Ether in the first place.:eek:

leave the starting fluid for the 1971 detroit diesels. give that thing a good whiff of propane and then start cranking on it. just use an unlit weed burner torch and feed it some perfectly atomized fuel......it will start instantly. once it runs for a bit on propane you should be gtg

well im just gona try the colant heater or a heater on the oil res.. im sure that will work!! the propane sounds like it might work also... ill keep u posted whats works the best:D:beer;

yea I would hazard a guess that the 112 and 116 has very low fuel vapor pressure, fuel wont or doesnt like to atomize in low temps. (IE , like AV gas...) Aircraft suck to start when it gets cold cause of that...

At some point in the fall refiners change the blend in Auto gas to get higher vapor pressures so your car starts easier in cold weather.

think a battery blanket might work?and propane is the answer for cold motors carry one for work anyways!
