Cold Starting a Sled?

I had a sled two years ago that was hard to start when it was real cold...was choking it and would still not start when it was real cold. Ended up being the choke cable was way out of adjustment and it was hardly actually opening the choke. Readjusted the cable and it always started right up after that...:D

Old gas is not helping the situation at all. I've been able to start my sleds as cold as -35F. They don't like it, but they start. -10 or -15 is nothing. If you are pouring hot water on your carbed motor, make sure you have a tether when you start it. I wouldn't even consider doing that.

I wouldn't pour hot water over the carbs, it may help it start, but unless your carbs get enough heat from the engine, they'll freeze up even worse wet. Like people said before, if you know the next time you start it it's going to be very cold, choke it till it dies. When we've spent the night in our cabin, in the morning we turn on the generator, and put a hair dryer under the hood for a while, works great. That's probably about all you can do on an EFI sled, other than pulling the plugs and pouring the gas in.
