Cold Starting a Sled?

OK, so my sleds started a week ago
when the temperature was 50-60.

Now it's 7 degrees out and I cannot
start my sleds!!!

Anyone got a cold starting procedure
that works?

DISCLAIMER:

Yes, the sled has spark and fuel, etc. :face-icon-small-ton

har starting

first off, how old is the gas? i have gotten gas out of the pump that would not start when it got down to 10. an easy way to see if it is strictly a cold air or gas issue is to dump about a 1/2 to a gallon of hot water over the carbs. have done that several times when it has been in the -20-30 range and the sled fires right up. good luck

take a torpedo heater and cover the front end with a tarp and run if for a few minutes, helsp get things warmer, and running warm air through it helps it start a lot easier.

Gas is from last Summer.

The choke was ON.

It started up easily in the warm weather,
but it's not doing anything now.

I should probably fill it up with new gas.

I give mine about half throttle and pull the cord... sometimes it takes a few pulls, but once she's warmed up it starts on the first pull...

I've done the above with my carb'd models and it worked fine. Would also sometimes kill it a night with the choke on over nighters to ease start up next AM.

WHAT ABOUT EFI SLEDS?

I'll be starting my new-to-me EFI in sub zeros this weekend. I hope it fires right up but if it doesn't any tricks for EFI??

if its the 99 rmk in his sig it should have a primer. on my 99 i would just pump the primer a few times flip the choke on and it would fire up no problem no matter what temp. my cat doesnt have a primer but all i do is flip the choke on, pull the rope slowly a few times to let her know whats comin then give it a good yank and it usually fire right up on the first or second good tug.

Hey guys,
If your sled sat for that long with out a full tank of fuel and gas in the carb bowls, you might of gotten moisture in the fuel and it was froze up.

In blind bowl Wy last year it was 10 below. At the end of the day while sled was running turned the choke on full and let the motor flood itself. 13 hours later in the morning my rev started on the first pull.

Ignition off, give it full choke and pull it over 2-3 times. Turn on the key hold the throttle open and start pulling. Also, your fuel/air mixture screws may need to be reset for colder weather

Old gas a few months old might not vaporize. Other leading cause of not starting at the beginning of the year are plugged pilot, stuck choke, and bad float bowl valve.
