cold seize???

so what are some tell tale signs of a cold seize....have never seen or whitnessed one..can you always hear it happen or can it be silent?..is it possible to turn the engine over easily?...hoping it didnt just happen to me!! :)
any input would be great! thanks guys!

Well if you start the sled without warming it up then take off and run it pretty hard, and it stops running within a mile or less then you've probably cold seized. As soon as it happens you will find it very hard to pull over your sled or you may not be able to do it at all. If you then sit and wait for 10 min or so and then try again and she pulls over then most likely you've cold seizied. Pull your Y-pipe off and look at the piston skirts, rings, piston sidewalls, and the top of the piston. You'll know right away if you did any damage. Good Luck

that about what i did....warmed it up pretty well tho before hittin the trail...sounded about like it ran outta gas..didnt hear anything funny...pulled Y pipe and looked at the pistons and rings and jugs thru the exhaust. cant see or feel a s scratch or anything....hoping its somethin else....anyone else?

lol....yes i filled up that day and barely rode....i mean i know the whiskey in cooke is good..:)..but i dont know what is goin on...if it seized i would think the exhaust side would show the damage if there was any right??? .i know my kill switch was acting up....is it possible for a kill switch to just go out? cuz before i couldnt really use it unless i pushed down really hard on it and held it there

Cold sieze will usually be a "4 Corners". I never move my sled until the heat exchanger is hot.

so i let it idle in town for 5 or 10 minutes...took off outta town and made it like a mile bottom to mid throttle.. then it was like it ran outta gas....will u necessarily see a 4 corner seizure thru the exhaust port? or will u be able to turn the sled over? should i pull the jugs to be safe and check everything??

then it was like it ran outta gas

A seize happens much faster than that. IMO you would likely not be describing a sieze of any kind with running outta gas.

Fuel
Spark
Compresssion

If you kant see any tell tale signs of scoring through either the exh or reeds I highly doubt that you seized it up and you need to look at other things.

5-10 minutes was prolly fine - but I agree with checking the cooler for warmth.

Pull the reeds out to inspect the intake side of the piston is all...
