COBE rear bumper on pro

i seen posts on here about the rear bumper breaking on the pros, i use a bungee quite a bit and i was wondering if anyone knows whether or not you can pull a bungee with the cobe rear bumpers, any insight is appreciated since i've never used one before or seen them other than in pictures.

There are many different views on "Snowbungie extraction"

I've used a snowbungie on this bumper to help out a friend when stuck...

What is your idea of using a snowbungie??

Here is a post I put up earlier this year.

Make the bumper stronger and if you apply enough force, you will ruin the tunnel.

JB.... some peoples "snow bungie" extraction methods are to

1) Park a second sled downhill at an angle... close to the stuck sled.

2) Hook a snow bungie to both bumpers...

3) Pin both sleds and violently rip the stuck sled out of the hole it is in...

I've seen this method bend tunnels, bend or rip out stock and aftermarket bumpers, send parts flying etc...

Most people think of snow bungee extraction as pulling on the handle and manually helping the stuck sled out... or hooking up between two sleds and using the lead sled to stretch the snowbungie but not "rip on it".

Just my 2 cents.

thanks i wasn't sure if the cobe bumper was strong enough to put up with it, i guess the bumper on my 09 RMK was strong enough do you know if the cobe is stronger as as strong as them, the ProRMK bumper sure as heck isn't.

appreciate it, thats what i was wondering. i'm one of those that hook a bungee up and take off like hell, i'm sure i'll bend up something at some point.

I have a new bumper that is designed to give a hard pull when you reach the end of the stretch length of the Snow bungee. If interested call Don at 208-350-0060

I am going to start building some that include new tunnel braces that go from the bulkhead to the bumper...but am at least a month out from having samples..but they will be very similar to my dragon setup...

where can i look at the ones you made for the iq chassis?

heres a few, the pro ones wont be quite so modded as far as running boards and such..but the red tunnel sides..with or without the gas rack and the rear bumper(on the prototypes I just cut I did them similar to the cobe with a snowflap bar and a raised bumper, but that can be changed to just do a straight bumper.....price wise it all depends on how wild you want to get..,what thickness..(the red ones are a full 1/4 in)most 1/8 is fine for...i just did a 155 dragon setup with 1/8in., no gas rack, double bumper,no powder coating and it was 400.00 no freight...the setup on this dragon for all the parts, rivits, bolts, powdercoating, glue would have run about 1600-1800...

that looks awesome, very nice work

thank you, the 1/4in sides on the dragon with out the running boards or the crossbars uncoated weighed 6.5 pds on my scales(they are the suspension mnts as well), its all in how fancy you want to get these ones featured the running boards raised 1.5 inches at the rear, tunnel tapered, they are both glued and solid rivited on..and greatly increase the chassis rigidity..I built these to handle dragging loaded tow sleds to my cabin 50 miles from the road...heres an xp I did as well..and a much simpler design...made from 1/8 in.

Quit telling everyone our secret plans.

bwahaha..logan....am not sure I can build one heavy enough to hold up to you...:face-icon-small-sho..dont worry..the more who want them..the lower I can get the price down...which would save everyone money...

Mikes Custom Sled Designs

Mike,

Awesome looking tunnel reinforcerment & custom running boards..:light:

Can you do a set for a 155 Dragon from the stirrups to mid tunnel?

Looking at a set in raw aluminum to prevent the famous IQ tunnel wrinkle.

Thanks in advance,

akrevrider

Hey Snopro,

I have shipped about a 100 or so bumpers over the last couple season, and have yet to hear of any issues, not saying that there are not any or will be, but that so far I have not had any negative feedback on them. I have been following this thread to see if anyone has had one fail.

I could make the slide plates thicker however I am concerned that the stronger I make the bumper the more it would damage the tunnel. I would rather replace a $20 bumper side plate or one of the tubes than a $1000 tunnel. I have ran analysis on it and designed to meet the requirements of lifting a sled with a large factor of safety. Also designed it for aesthetics, to meet a price target, purpose by having the snow flap bar, and to be modular to keep shipping plus easier for replacing parts. It is stronger than the Pro version and the older 07-09 version. However, I never did analysis on using a snowbungee.

Obviously going to a aftermarket tunnel or what AKSnowrider is making would be the stronger solution but also quite a bit more expensive.

Please feel free to PM for any other questions or concerns.

Thanks.

John

BTW, here is one that I did for "Smasher" of Boondockers movie and Team Summit...
