cmx belt drive question

I have an older cmxds and it has the three holes around the driver axle for the bearing backer plate. I never got the plate and is it necessary? And what's its purpose? To keep things from hitting the bearing or to keep the bearing centered in the plate?

tjere should be two of them, its two of the gold colored plates with 3 holes? they sandwich and center the bearing and hold it to the tunnel side.

That is a flange type bearing. It takes 2 flanges and a bearing in the middle to complete the assy. the inner flange may or may not have studs integrated to help in assembly. The flanges are easy to come by. Im guessing the flanges weren't zip tied together and the outer flange fell off.

i have a new bearing and its wider than the mount plate. so it should stick out of the drve side an eigth inch with this backer plate?
