What RPM does your clutch engage and begin to move the sled? On mine it is about 5000,seems too high.What clutch weight are you guys running for 200 lb guy at 8000 ft.? I also notice I run a little rough,lot of vibration at lower rpm but runs smooth from 5000rpm up. I have tried not to be concerned about it cause it is on the first tank of fuel and still have the ethanol resistor in it. It perks right up when you gas it.Hope it smooths out on the next tank of fuel.
 
I asked this question awhile back and got no responses. ?? So here's what I found. From the book the engagement is supposed to be 3800 rpm (stock primary spring). Which mine is & does. My sled starts to move around 4000 rpm. I personally like a lower engagement but have yet to determine if that will be benificial with the new sled. I will ride it as is for awhile. Being new to the Polaris game I am curious where Carl's & SLP set the engagment with their clutch kits? Or do they discuss it with you and customize it to your liking?
 
Unfortunately the engagement is not adjustable-it can be changed with a spring using less preload or heavier weights but proper clutching is more important than engagement RPM, IMO. Your spring will take a set but that won't change engagment much. If you are engaging at 5m you must be running light weights for higher altitude. This still shouldn't be a big issue if you set clutch side clearance tight, keep belt deflection tight and get a helix from Carl's that has a steeper initial shift.
In the past high engagement resulted in excess track spin at takeoff and sometimes harsh primary engagement. No longer the case with the new equipment.
 
Thanks for the reply Ron. And yes, in the past I have always changed my spring to lower my engagement. However, I'm finding the engagemant to be pretty smooth and takeoff pretty mild with the Pro. Or maybe that's just a Polaris trait. A few more miles as is and I'll probably change some things just to see. Now even trying a Carl's helix. Can't help myself :face-icon-small-dis

check your belt deflection, as it gets loose the rpms tend to climb up on engagement,

Rune, stock has been pretty close so far..much better then what came on the dragons..I put a setup on mine to try out on my next ride(unfortunately our snow /weather has been sucking..so it may be a few weeks before I can try it...I will post up what I find once I get a chance to try things...zapping around the back yard(not near big enough to really get some speed)..but the setup in there right now pulls hard..

Took it in for a ten hour checkup and had them change the weights to 60's. Also asked them to check deflection and motor mount bolts. It was discovered that I had cords coming off on the belt which was pretty concerning,107 miles on the belt. Atleast the dealer replaced it. I asked if they checked the belt alignment and they said they did. Did not make it out again this weekend to see if any improvements were made but I am going to be hopeful. Have a lot of riding planned for next weekend :face-icon-small-win
 
my stock assualt enguages at about 3800 but when i was climbing today i noticed 8400 RPMS several times, and maybe more when im not looking? That seams a bit high. It still has oil in the tank and about 100 miles total.
 
Just one trip, 2 hours. Also see the 5K engagement but the sled can ease away so no worries. saw 8350 on the tach whan I grabbed a handful of throttle but I'm almost positive they did not swap out the stock weights for my sea-level.

Seems nice and smooth the little ride I gave it, nothing hard. We'll see once it loosens up and the extra oil is gone.

Personally, I like a later engagement. But probably not that late. Quicker engagement seems to have more belt rubbing vs. grabbing. Your primary spring works against your primary weights. What elevation are you at? Your weight is important, but isn't making the sled hook up that late. If you are in Wyoming (from your name) I'd bet that something between 58-62 is all you need. I would guess you have 10-60's and the stock spring.

I finally got back out after the clutch weight change. I have 60's in now. My engagement is closer to 4,000 now and the clutch weight change definately gave me better top end. I can get 8200 at altitude now.We ride from 6500 in town up to 9,000 where the fun is. My biggest concern is the belt at this point after finding cords showing in 108 miles on the first one. I am hoping that was a fluke belt,I dont see any threads about belt issues and Polaris replaced it. At 170 bucks I cant afford one with every other tank of gas
