Clutching in 09 xp

Just wondering if anyone has the clutching dialed in yet. I've got a good idea of what I'm gonna try but I just wanted to get others opinions. Where I ride is 9000+. Would like to turn 8200 everywhere. Got any ideas?

Pitch the factory helix, ramps and primary spring. Go back to the 08 setup and fix the real problems. Mine runs whatever target rpm I choose with clutch temps in the 120 degrees F. range. It runs within 150 to 200 rpm from pack to powder and actually builds track speed....unlike the POS 09 setup. Just run a gram or two less for 8k and up. JMO.

BTW the 08 setup doesnt work too well till you take care of a couple big issues. But it works better than the 09 setup in the hills once the sled is fully broken in.

thats why our dealer has switched 30 plus 2008 sleds to the 09 POS clutching which we like and also put in our 08:confused::confused:we have done 8 sleds ourselves-without 1 complaint at all and we ride from 8000 to 10500 feet
PS: ship me all those POS 09 helixs and ramps, i'll gladly pay the shipping

Exactly Wyoming TA!

Went up to the next stiffer spring than stock and we're all spot on in Click 2 at 8000 feet and pulls like nothing i've ever ridden! I've been quietly listening to Wyoming TA in the background and when he speaks you should listen!

What exactly are the differences between 08 and 09 clutches

2008 clutching
short hollow pins 10.9 gm--at 8000 feet up
413 ramps
160-320 primary
straight 42 helix

2009 clutching
longer pins 12.2 gm hollow- should have the2008- shorter pins for our elevation
441 ramps
200-320 primary
43/47 reverse angle helix

secondary spring is the same

In your opinion, what are a the real problems with the '08 clutching?

Any questions?? Don't waste you money on either setup. If not sure how to fix it your self but a clutch kit. I hear good things about winter brew's.

I didnt think the clutching in my 09 was that bad. 250 miles and havent blown a belt, 40-45mph track speed on a good climb, very responsive. The only thing I would like to change is to get the track speed up a little, and bring clutch temps down just a little. I can put my hand on my clutches, but not hold it there after some hard riding. Im not vented yet either though.

So if things arent that bad, a guy shouldnt have to change too much should he? I was thinking of trading ramps with a buddy that has an 08. That should be a win win for both of us shouldnt it? Then putting a 160 320 primary spring in it and gearing it down to a 20 tooth on the top. Any thoughts on this setup?

i have the 160-320 and a 20 tooth in my 154x

20 tooth on a 163? Wyoming Ta What do you think?

My Dealer\Clutch guy is hesitant to go to a 20 tooth on my 163, i have very good track speed and tremendous response and i have gone up in springs, should i give it a shot or is it too much?, i hate waisting time experimenting when guys like yourself already know what the result will be!
Thanks!!!
