What are your thoughts on getting a smooth clutch engagement. I ride a Nytro MTX and the on / off nature of the sled can be tiring in technical riding.

I have found that a smooth engagement is not necessarily dependent upon engagement rpm, and that it is possible to have a higher and smoother engagement, as compared to a lower and unsmooth engagement.

So what is the secret to a good smooth engagement?

ruff 2 things..low enguagement speed and you must take out the side clearance in the primary...I use the 911 clutch cover from hi tech..GREAT product as it uses a bronze bearing and has a large nut you can twist to adjust side clearance without shimming the spider..then lock it down..its works really good on the yammis..I run minimal clearance on the belts and shes smooth as silk ..

Who have you been talking to that rides in technical terrain?? :eek: :D :beer;

Try a primary spring with a lighter preload rating. Check out the spring chart on the Totally Yamaha technical pages.

I am thinking the bold is part of the problem.. I need to take a closer look at my clutches and make sure everything is how it should be.

You have any source for the 911 clutch cover. A search found my zilch in google...

You should switch the rolls in your primary clutch to the small 14,5mm ones. The shiftcurve will be a little more agressive, your rpms will drop from engagement to top but it will be SO much smoother at engagement.
