Blew my $180 Polaris Clutch belt this past weekend, and only had it for about 2 months :(

Wondering what different options there are for belts out there, and which are the best for the price? My buddy told me about www.gates.com anyone tried these or know the belt model number I should be looking for?

thanks!

I've had a Dayco XTX5020 on my '14 since day one. I did have SLP balance the clutch and set the sheave-to-belt clearance while they had it apart. I also use this belt on my '09 777. Still on the original belt since the first start up of the 777 engine. It's around 900 to 1000 miles now and still looks great.

Be ready to recalibrate your clutching if you change belts. Even all the Polaris offerings such as the 3211115, 3211122 and the 3211080 all run different RPM's due to compounds used and slightly different dimensions.

I've been thinking about using the Cat 048 belt. I've heard good things about it. Oregon Sports can ship it to me for $88.

I've tried some other belts with no luck. Either they didn't wear well or didn't consistently pull the right RPMS. Hands down, the expensive Polaris belt works best. It should be lasting you a good 800 miles. If you are getting a fraction of that then there could be another culprit.

I agree with this with my first 2 poo belts I got over 1300 miles and stil have them for spares

I found the Cat 048 belt to be working better than the Poo belt. My first one pulled a cord around 500 miles. I fitted my spare Poo belt and after just a couple hundred miles I noticed I was dropping rpm. I broke in the Cat belt and have been riding it for 2-3 weekends now. With no adjustments my peak rpms are back and the belt appears to be wearing better than the Poo belts.

Telling someone how long a belt "should" last is kind of crazy since we all pretty much ride differently. Tons of things that can contribute to short or long life. I have NEVER been able to get much more than 5-700 miles from a belt on any sled ridden hard in the mountains.

I tried the Gates Kevlar on my Pro did not get 300 miles out of it . Everytime I rode it I was losing RPM . I have run the Carlisle XS809 on my 700 Dragon for a couple of years and it has treated me good but I did lose 200 RPM from the Poo 15 . I am going to try the 048 next to compare with the XS809 .
Mostly all riding is boondocking and tree riding.

Thanks for all the input guys, its good hearing everyones thoughts and experiences.

But understand that the softer belts are going to pull better RPM's but will not last as long. The harder belts will need to be adjusted in deflection and once setup will hold the RPMS and last longer. There is usually a price difference in that equation. For me, the softer belts worked great out of the box but lost RPM's more quickly (makes sense, they are not as durable).

As for judging how long a belt should last, it's the same discussion as how long tires should last. We all drive differently but you still expect roughly the same durability from tire to tire.
