This slide came down seconds after a buddy and me dropped down into this basin at Fremont Pass on Sunday. Very close call. When I looked back for my buddy as I was climbing back up the other side (in a safe zone) of the basin I saw it was already stopped. Didn't know how close it had come to him, but I'm guessing way too close. The snow was setup well and this was a sun facing slope. We dropped in where I thought would be safe, but I was wrong. I was in a big avy at american lakes a couple years ago and have been very cautious since then. Have stayed off climbing steep slopes because of the high avy danger. Thought I was far enough left dropping into the basin, but obviously wasn't. What really scared me about this one is that I didn't see or hear it. The majority of the snow came to rest right over our tracks. Probably 10ft deep ice chunks. Live and learn. Be cautious the rest of the season out there fellas!!!
