Cleaning rails and spindles

Maybe Goo-Gone or a GoJo waterless hand cleaner. I used to climb trees every summer and everything got pitchy, the GoJo type products worked the best to clean the equipment.

probably not a bad idea either im also trying to figure out what would be good to get that road grime off from the mag chloride they put on rodes my rails get hit with that and makes a mess!

You know what works better than anything for removing tree pitch? Butter. Plain ol' butter. I'm not saying to smear butter all over your sled, but to get pitch off your hands after handling firewood, it works awesome. You'll be amazed.

Yeah that mag chloride is a bi_ch! Eats the plastic idler wheels, belly pan, and anything else it touches. They put a layer of chip seal over the highway here to bandaid it until the state could afford to do it right. That winter they chose to use the Mag-Chloride and it ate the polymer and dissolved the road. The plus side is all of the polymer ended up on our vehicles, looked like they sprayed undercoating over the whole truck not just the bottom. Good plan Geniuses! Kerosene or diesel removed the polymer with lots of elbow grease. Never found anything that could / would tame the effects of the Mag-Chloride. Thank god they switched road salts here. Good luck.

Hard anodize the rails stops the mag chloride from corroding them. Etching mag cleaner works really good on anything cast to clean the aluminum used to use it on the cases and cast cylinders on my dirt bikes make them look brand new again. I found Eagle 1 etching mag cleaner to be the best. Just dont use it on anything polished or it will dull the finish.

I use a strong acid (hydrosulfuric) it is a commercial detailing product used to clean wheels...I mix it 50/50 w/water. Sledbright makes a similar product that won't destroy your lungs. Spray it on the rails, spindles etc...hit it with hot water in your pressure washer and it will be bright clean and new...take care of the tree bark/sap/oxidation from salt (or worse/bromide crap). You can scrub w/ a brush if it is really bad. Depending on how porous the metal is, you can use Wizards Power Seal (I use it on my tunnel and on the aluminum fenders of my trailer after they are polished) to help seal the aluminum...take forever to do the rails, but cheaper than powder coating I suppose.
