high end cleaning products - before and after pics

I figure this is a good thread because it is getting that time of the year where some of us are starting to detail the sleds. I have always looked for the softer , easier way and purchased a few products to help with my summer clean-up.

Black Again was recommended by a guy on this site. It is a product used by auto detailers to restore the black color to plastics and was tried on a faded Boss seat with mixed results.

I purchased via the internet at 36$ for 6 bottles. I used 1/3 of a bottle for 2 sleds so it is actually pretty cheap. This stuff works very very well. Much better than back to black. It goes on in a clear gel and just wipes off. You leave the sled in the sun for a few hours to activate it. The results are very good.

the 2007 Rev seat was badly faded. The rear mud flaps were pretty bad as well, typical for a sled that has spent any time in the sun.

huge difference in the seat. The plastic looks almost new. The snow flaps are 90% better as well. ANyone who has a Polris will know what the faded brake controler module on the handlebars looks like after a few years. It is black again.

the next product to review is Zephyr Pro 40 Aluminum Polish. I went to a truck stop and asked the cleaning bay what they used. They swear by this stuff so I bought a bottle from the local Peterbuilt shop for $35. I used about a 10th of a bottle for 2 sleds so the price is fair.

My opinion of this product is - depending on your expectation, it is very good. The instructions say to use sparingly, lightly apply, and then wipe off. This is about 100th the effort of Mothers. I purposely follwed the directions to see if a "no effort" aluminum polish actually existed and it does. Some more work with this could achieve excellent results.

It does a good job if you want a clean tunnel that looks like it has been lightly polished. It took me 5-10 minutes per sled and it would have taken an hour with Mothers to achieve the same result. If you want a showcase mirror finish, then a long day with a powerball is inevitable.

If you gave your sled a good polish and then used this for maintainence, I think you would be very happy. If one coat of Zephyr Pro 40 was all you did, nobody would look down on you.

the last product for today is Purple Shine. It is a cleaner / shiner that is safe for clear coat applications. The guys at Peterbuilt really liked this stuff but that may be because it was $28 for a bottle of non-greasy Armor-All.

I suppose it worked well and I am not afraid to use it on my BMW so the price is probably OK. It seems a little overkill for sleds but that may be more of a reflection on me than the product.

It did a real good job on the cowling so I won't complain about it.

that is it, done for the day. Now on to building my mod IQ. If you like the looks of either sled, they are for sale this fall. I will sell one a keep the other as a backup sled. I am up to 5 sleds now and my wife is not as pleased with that as you might imagine.

good review... cant wait to get my sled back to do some tweaks, plan on using the back to black all over the place. got a bottle off the website that was recomended on here think it was around $20, used it on the bumpers on my truck as well as the mirror mounts and trim and it works awesome!

nice! is there anything out there that might help to fill in a few scratches about 1/8th of an inch deep in the plastics?

Glad you guys are liking the Black Again I recommended. I tried a new product that was also mentioned by another Snowester. It is Aluma Brite. I used it one one of my aluminum trailers and it works great. It takes off the oxidation and gives a slight new shine look. I need to use it on a sled next. the only drawback is it will take the zinc or any anodized plating off. It definitely has it's place in my cleaning supplies.

I just played around with 6 different aluminum polish's doing the tunnel of my sled. What-a-Shine worked the best.....I tried Mothers, Flitz, Nevr-dull, jewelers rouge, and a couple other from Les-Schwab...their name escapes me right now.
What-a-Shine gave noticably the best results and contains wax to help it stay looking good. I used them all both by hand and with a buffer. :beer;

BIO-KLEEN for sleds, this guy has some great stuff...

if it is good, then post some pics c/w a detailed explanation of the time / effort involved.

The whole purpose of this thread was to give a detailed account of some products. My goal was to give enough information that someone could make an informed decision on buying cleaning products.

LMAO, everyone is an entrepenuer these days. Tell him to pm me for my address and send me some. Another guy is sending me some fancy aluminum polish to try out as well. I am going to try it out but, a word of warning...

I am the laziest guy in the world. I will try your stuff out and I will post detailed pics but I will also say exactly how much work is involved. If it is too complicated or too hard, I will post that. 500+ people may base their buying decision on my laziness.
