Cleaned Power Valves, and new wires - No Start

Hey all,

Since snow has not really been falling I thought I would to some PM on my 2012 800 Pro. It has 3,500 miles on the chassis and about 850 on a new motor.

This week I pulled the power valves and gave them a cleaning, I did not replace the springs yet since they had to be ordered in. I also replaced the plug wires and boots since they were the originals.

Went through the electrical connections and blew them all out, a couple of pins the ecm had some corrosion on them, but they were the blanked out ones.

Now that I did all this great PM the machine will not start. I pull the rope and it fires up for a second and then dies. Then next pull it seems like it is hydrolocked. Pull the plugs and turn over and fuel comes out the PTO cylinder.

Let her sit and try again get the same thing. I checked TPS and it is right at spec, put in new plugs and it still does the same thing. Compression is at 120+/- per side.

What did I f-up ? Also, I did go back to the original plug wires and the same thing still happens.

Thanks for any thoughts or info.

The sled is stock, no add ons or changes.

Well I started figuring it out I think. I took the plug wires back to the bench and two of them had a very high resistance, so I was not get a spark and the cylinder was loading up with fuel.

I removed the plugs and rotate through several pulls, and then let her sit for 30 minutes. Replaced the plugs and after about 15 pulls it sputtered along and started.

Now the check engine light is showing a diagnostic code of 51 3 for a TPS Voltage Too High so I will look into that this weekend.

Oh yea and my temp sensor is showing -40 on the display, that seems a little low since it is about 50 F and sunny here in Boise today. Any thoughts on this?

Well I guess I lied went back tonight and it seems like the machine is just dumping fuel into the cylinder. The plugs were wet again and it just about ripped my arm of catching the pull rope half way through the stroke. Grrr

Check your plugs for spark. One of my plug caps wasn't screwed on all the way and wasn't firing causing similar symptoms. You did replace the wires with ones of similar resistance, right?

Yep,

I matched them up with the same resistance (similar) resistance for wires and boots or at least that is what I was sold at Carl's here in town.

I am replacing the plugs again when I just checked the spark it is not the greatest color more white than blue.

Still flooding out the system when I pull to start I do not get anything unless I hold the throttle lever wide open, then it fires for about 2 seconds and dies.

Then about five more pulls and then the same thing. I guess it might just be going into the shop on Monday ... It would be nice to figure it out though.

you should be able to pressure test injectors if they hold fuel pressure they should be ok.

Looks like the machine will be going into the shop today, injectors seemed to be doing fine, coolant temp sensor checked out okay. Stator ohmed out ok.

I am thinking the ECU when titz up maybe. I will let the shop tell me what is the next step.

Well I got a call back from the shop today. It looks like the TPS was bad and I had a wire rubbing in the harness that was causing all sort of codes to fire off on the digital wrench.

For the price of the parts, diagnostic and labor they are going to do the work for about $350 which seems more than fair and they should have the machine up and running by Friday so I am just going to let them fix it.

Thanks for the help.
