Chipped reed petal

Will a single chipped reed petal cause a flooded condition? Sled won't rev out past 5k rpm, I was told to check the reeds, pulled them apart and found a minut chip at the very end of the petal.

are you referring to a serious miss rich feeling at this 5k mark?? but still seems to engage correctly an run decent until 5k??

ive had a whole reed peddle missing and it just ran on one cylinder until ya got over about 5500 rpm then it cleaned out and ran great. I wouldnt think a little chip on the end would make do what you say.

Well I've got to replace the reed anyway. I was told to use 30% race fuel at the most, but was using 100%. I guess I'm too rich.

I ran straight AV gas and had a problem with idle and the low end above 8500'. With the low comp heads you can have to much octane fairly easy, which I used to not believe this! I run a 50 to 50 mix and runs much better and I have had it up to 12 pounds on consecutive pulls and no signs of det. I don't think this is your problem of not getting over 5k. Give some more history, when did this start and how did it run the time before? Also what is your gauges saying....egts/A/F, volts, charge temps at what boost(helps diagnose boost leaks, ect?

Things to think about: New plugs, new reeds, fuel filter (when was that changed), torn throttle body boots, (when where they changed), exhaust valves, (when were they cleaned, or checked), pistons(have you visually inspected pistons, (do this when cleaning exhaust valves), compression, (have you check compression), injectors (possible bad injector/s, short on injector wires). This covers most of the common problems on these sleds not including VR fails and ECU.

Start with the easy stuff first and maybe go try a test run and observe as much as you can to help give us more info so we can help diagnose. Good luck.

When you hit 5000 does it just shut off and backfire sometimes? then return to idle if you release throttle? Thats what mine was doing on sunday, and I found two things. Wasted plug caps and wires (per slp thank you) ,and 2 prong connector for diagnostics up by hood hinge was grounding out on pipe heat shield (per Chets honda and polaris n Quincy WA,Great shop, thank you).
Best of luck! I sure like mine better when it runs like it is supposed to.

Wow creepy how similar your story is to mine...my two prong connector too wore out and grounded the sled out on sunday, and I have a weird black residue almost like melting plastic on the top of my spark plugs.....

My sled will start a lil harder now, 3-4 pulls rather than 1-2...runs fine, engages somewhat normal and then if you try and ride it above 5000 Rpm's it cuts out and bobbles realy bad, egt's start reading funny something like 900 on the PTo side and 1100 on the Mag and then when you back of it it returns to idle and seems to idle fine....sound familiar?

Thanks for the help. The sled is my buddy's and I wasn't on the ride so I'm only going off of what he said.
I will check the diagnostic port today and report back.

As far as the plug caps and wires my buddie who is a tech told me that polaris is aware of a serious harmonic vibration as the motor revs up. They even have a slow motion film of it shot with a high speed camera to show the techs how important wire routing and cap condition is. Sweet my ups man just dropped my new wires and caps and tether on my deck, time to get to work.

Oh and also dealer says I may have to have the sled diagnostics cleared before it will run proper after the grounding issue. Good luck

I have 2 sleds that do this "Harmonic vibration", a 600 and an 800 changing the wires and caps is the fix?. Check the fuel pump sumps/strainers for the bog in this post, they are coming apart
