chest protection

Merry Christmas!
So would like to hear opinions on different chest protection products. Not looking to take the cheap way out if there is a difference in quality, but seems if you add the word "snow" to a protector it goes up in price $200.
Looking at TEK (very expensive), EVS sports "snow" (expensive), and EVS revolite (far less expensive). Any real world / real use experience with these particular products people would share? Thanks.

get one with no zipper up the center of the sternum. a solid plate gives more protection, than one that is split in two pieces, held together by a zipper. disperses more energy accross the whole plate to save your core. ski

I also am just getting into the chest protector thing. After reading on here and talking to others I went with a basic roost guard. It should stop any sticks from penetrating and maybe save a rib if I bite it. Didnt want something with big shoulder protection as I always wear a backpack. It is fairly small and fits very comfortably under my jacket. If I feel I need more I will invest in something bigger, and I am only out the $60 for the roost guard.

I wear a Bwear vest and love it. Too bad they are no longer around.

I was wondering about rodeo gear? I see the guys on TV wearing protective vests in the bull riding events. Seems to look like it should work fine. I would think they are cheaper also????

Looking into Rockgardn Their flack jacket breaks down to a vest and their back pack (with hydro) clips on. Mountain bikers give great reviews on the system, been hurt worse on a MB than a sled. Maybe just lucky....
Have a Bee wear vest and MX chest protectors, the BW vest felt like best protection but don't like the feel (comfort).

I wear a Tek-vest and it's saved me from bars to the chest, tree branches to the chest, and some nasty falls. I did break a rib last year in a bad wreck but I think the Tek-vest was the difference between a long, slow ride out and a helicopter ride. I won't ride without a Tek-vest.

is that robocop

muscles hardly handle a hernia let alone a branch :brokenheart:

I have been reading lots of protector reviews lately and am having a tough time narrowing it down. I mountain bike and would like to get something I could wear for both. I only wear a camel bak when bike riding and was thinking something along the lines of

Wondering if the shoulder pads would interfere with a backpack full of survival gear (sledding)

what's the consensus on knee?shin protection???

As I age it becomes more clear the importance of safety gear. I am no longer Gumby-like, and can't afford to miss work or pay for major surgery. I'll sacrifice some mobility for securtiy.

thor impact rig se

ended up going with Thor for the upper body protector. what sold me was the removable spine protector. :tea:

I also mountain bike. I only have knee and elbow guards though. For some reason I've always thought of getting a Tek vest for sledding, but never considered anything for biking... which is really stupid. I go pretty big on my bike and the consequences of a crash are soooo much higher than on my sled.

I don't think so. 661 is a smart company and I'm sure they developed those suits around a backpack, as many bikers wear them. (Although it probably would have been developed with a smaller and lighter camelbak.

I don't wear anything like that for sledding, although it couldn't hurt I guess. Any of the MTB ones should work great I would think.

If I was gonna buy one I'd have to go with the 661 Core Saver. Looks like a TekVest but at like half the price. Plus, 661 has a great rep around the MTB world for quality gear that performs well.

I have this piece of equipment and am really happy with it so far. Very easy to move in and works great. Not as beefy as the TekVest, but I like it because it zips up the side instead of the middle of your chest. I also wear shin and knee pads now and love those as well. I would feel naked now if I rode without them.

the future wife got me this for christmas and Im really suprised at how well it stays down and how natural it feels. doesnt restrict me at all. I'm impressed with it. EVS SV1R vest
