Chelan Riding Report

Pretty much each year in Feb. 5 of us ride Chelan for 3 or 4 days. This week, it's Mon, Tues, Wed....We were worried about the wet, heavy snow near the passes.

But, it look like their snow is all powder once you get above the snow park 500 ft or so. Lot's of open areas with powder. You can still sink in a find the rocks and stumps (found both yesterday), which is rare for this time of year. WE only saw one other group all day.....

Yesterday, we got out of the fog a and clouds right away. Today, just got up and sunny skies. The grooming is still nice from last week. With the passes, closed, I don't think it had much use over the weekend.

Gotta go.....

Trail maps and grooming schedules around Chelan are at:

Several areas to ride, but if you're staying in Chelan, the Closest Sno-Park is Echo Valley. Head of out Chelan toward Manson, take a right on "Boyd Drive" and follow the signs.....IF you're staying in Wapato or Manson, Antilon Lake Sno Park is closer, Turn at the Casino and head up the hill. Both access to an area that about a 60-70 loop, with ways to cut across the loop and drop down the other side to Black Canyon.

Enjoy....

From the Echo valley sno-park any area's of preference, play area's etc.
First ride in Chelan area hoping to see all the great riding I've heard about.
We like to do a lot of boondocking exploring hope for good snow.

I rode out of the Echo Valley snopark on Sun the 17th. The snow is pretty well setup, crusty in most places. South facing slopes are looking pretty thin except for up high. We did the short loop which still took us 4hrs with a couple short view stops and one at a warming hut; no playing.

The north and east facing trails were in excellent condition. My recommendation is if you can find a local to show you some play areas you'll be much happier. The other people in my group rented sleds from Uncle Tim's. We spent some time after the riding talking to the owner. Nice guy. He just might tell you where to go if you ask.

Have fun, it's a beautiful area.

Plenty of good snow up on top.....Most good play areas are past the warming hut, on the the turn off for Gold Creek and then go west along the ridge from there. IT opens up a lot and there are places to play....Also, just past the warming hut, start down OSS Peak (spelling?) trail and there is a big open hillside area on your right within the 1st 1/2 mile or so.......

No real play areas on the trail that goes along the lake, west from Antilon Lk. Snow park......Enjoy....

Wife and I just got home from riding chelan for the first time and is was a pretty neat area. Groomed trails were great but snow was pretty hard.

Devil's backbone or loop?

The big 100 mile loop on the side of the lake is fine but my wife and I liked the ride over on the Devil's backbone much more. Greater eleveation and beter snow...

Where's Devil backbone from Echo valley sno-park?If I can't have fresh snow how about those eastern Washington sunny Days.!!! A little Fun in the Sun this weekend would be great!

Hey Skid, rhe backbone is on the south side of the lake. When you get to chelan go to the chamber of commerce and get the grooming trail maps they have. The lady there was real helpful.
