You see that (SW member The Liberal). You like a fight, Why don't you fight those lefties that want to take away your right to snowmobile. ;) Now there's a perfect oportunity for a good fight, and a good cause.
have at it, get out there and be somebody your parents would be proud of.

Did anyone check oout their corprate sponsors. Mammut is one of them. No wonder their beacons are so exspensive. Im sure glad i didn't buy one. They are probably good beacons but there are lots of others out there that support snowmobiling that work just as well.

Yeah, I found out that Mammut and REI sponsor this crap. I own 2 REI shirts and a Mammut pack and beacon :(

I don't have the REI shirts anymore and can't wait to be able to afford an ABS pack ... heh :o

We should send a letter to their sponsors that the snowmobile community is going to boycott there businesses. It also shows that sledders need to be organized. If all sledders got together we could shoot down most of these other groups.

That would take a massive upheaval grass-roots style organization the likes of which we have never seen. It would take more than just snowmobilers. It would take everyone that BRC represents quite frankly. Nevermind the fact that the sled portion of that is far and away the least impactive, but irregardless it would take a lot for this to happen.

It all comes down to money. We need some really wealthy oilmen with deep pockets to be on our side, that's almost the only hope I see for this happening.

I've been tracking this group for years. Their headquarters is here in Boise.

They share a lot of cross board members with the Snowlands Network idiots. And their board of directors is cross filled with many people from the Sierra Club. They used to hold media relations seminars (how to manipulate the media) here at Bogus Basin every two years. Looks like they held it at Golden Co last year.

These guys are organized. Everything from government grants to get solar powered lights for cross country ski trails, to government grants to teach bus loads of school kids about their version winter recreation, to internships from the local colleges (yes can get college credit for helping shut down snowmobiling), to 13 full time paid employs (last time I counted), to always wanting to be at the negotiations table to force snowmobilers to compromise away their riding areas.

Anyway, their only purpose in life is to kill snowmobiling. They will shut down snowmobiling in a area right next to wilderness. And, they don't advocate development of access to the wilderness. They want half our gas tax refund, to go to them (which they get), and they want us gone.

A real collection of scumbags.

I completely agree with you . The problem with people in the oil business, is they have an even bigger target on their backs and have to tread lightly to keep the environuts at bay.

What it's going to boil down to is how badly all of us as a collective group want to keep the areas we have now, and start supporting groups such as the BRC and SAWS even more financially than some of us are now. My $50 or 100 bucks a year isn't much, but if more and more started stepping up to the plate, these groups could afford to get some more people on full time and fight fire with a waterbomber. I'm not trying to downplay what our groups have been doing. It just pales in comparasin to the nut jobs in groups like mentioned in this thread are doing. It sucks and we shouldn't have to be scratching and clawing for rights we always should have kept.

I would personally like to thank "RMKRIDER" for posting this on here. No matter how we all feel about these folks that are trying to promote "quiet winter recreation" we (snowmobilers) all are under the microscope constantly. There are some really interesting thoughts that were placed in that 44 page document that I truly disagree with, but the problem is they are organized and that document will travel all the way to D.C. and because of the statements and how well it is put together, it will be used against our sport. Pelosi and Dingy Harry are going to have fun with this.

There has never been a time more then now for all snowmobilers to wake up. We are being challenged on all fronts and it is time to reach out to all of your fellow riders and get involved. This document has raised alot of questions of land use and promotion of "quiet recreation" versus working together.

This document has some statistic's about my state, Nevada that I would really like to challenge, such as the amount of groomed trails and the amount those trails open to "quiet recreation". Not sure where these 48 mile of groomed trails are (there are only 2 areas in Nevada that have groomed trails and I can assure you there sure is not 48 miles worth). Both are on top of Spooner summit on Highway 50 and one is for Spooner Lake State Park(closed to sleds) and one is on top of the summit and it is run and operated by Zephyr Cove Snowmobile tours. The other issue with this report really boils down to who and when was the polling data collected. There is no mention whatsoever. The claim of more skier days versus snowmobile days in Nevada seems about right but then I wonder how many of those days calculated are spent at the local ski resorts versus being out for a walk in the mountains. If they want true statistics then they need to delete all data collected by folks going to resorts.

This is going to be a really tough 2 years if not 8 years on our sport. We need to wake up because there is on statistic in this report that can help us, and that is all of the snowmobilers accounted for in this report stood and said we have a voice too, we may stand a chance. Time for all of us to be on our best behavior and wake up.

This is our little local group. www.quietuse.org

Allot of these people that come up here to the Mtns (From the Front Range) are highly educated. They live with the noise of the city and on their weekend, they dream of solitude. And they know how to place their views, write letters etc in order to get their agenda's heard. They organize and march forward.

Sledders that I know, work to hard and do not have time to devote to causes like they do. They are mostly single people, or retired with nothing else to do but join a group that gives them individual attention.

They have no tolerance for others to enjoy the outdoors, unless it is the way they want. Self absorbed, their way of life is the way you should live your life mentality.

I love the backcountry solitude, if I want that I go to Wilderness areas. But on the other hand, I sled, ATV, Mtn Bike, Hike, ski, kayak etc. when time allows. And I would never tell anybody or support a group that is so narrow minded as to tell others how to enjoy their life.

Just the beginning. If they got their way, my backyard would be wilderness. If these groups have meeting, go to them if you have time and see if they will accept diffrent view points, might be kind of fun. Just don't lose your temper. Bet they will. :D

time to stand up!!

This is what I like! in the bottom right hand corner it says

[Why Backcountry Skiers and Snowshoers Should Care about the Economic Stimulus Bill].

now you know exactly who your dealing with!!!

It does come down to money, but it also comes down to us getting off our lazy a** and doing something. If everyone logged onto this site mailed letters to our representatives on the same day they would take notice. The problem is that many of us are to lazy to spend 15 minutes saving our riding areas. Or we spend the time complaining about environmentalists on this site. We get our butts kicked because they are organized and we aren't.

You think they would spend their time trying to stop clear cutting and not bothering us for making tracks before they do.

Now that I have your blood boiling, like Beels said, $10,$20,$50 or $100 give to your snowmobile club legal fund,BRC or SAWS. I know times are tough but pass up on stopping for that big dinner on the way back from riding once a month and there is a $20 that you know will be money well spent.
Start writing letters to your senators and representatives.
DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
IF YOU DON'T YOU WILL HAVE NOBODY TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF.

Eye Opener

Those sites are an eye opener

I hope who ever they wanted to read this realizes that their information came from .com's which anyone can create and put anything on there and someone’s comment from an .edu site, did not know a comment had so much influence. If snowmobilers find untouched snow I am sure skiers can find untouched areas too since they have access to the whole state.

These are the same people the build a cabin then fight to get all of the land shut off to everyone else because they are selfish.

I write letters to my Senators and Representative all the time.

Others need to do the same. Sign up for SAWS. They will notify you when there is a bill coming up, often they will have a letter already drafted up that you can e-mail to your Senator/Representative. Takes no more than 15 minutes of your life to do.

and i can't even understand how people can believe this one sided brainwashing B.S!!!!
take and skew the info to fit what you need with old data and info taken for anyplace that looks good.

Man i stopped drinking Budweiser and budweiser products because ive heard they support the Seirra Club.

Also why dont we do some type of fund raiser to get money for the groups. Its just an idea of mine but like organize something were all of the snowmobile groups get together. You can hold the fund raiser at a major event like the expo. Of course there will be a ton of snowmobilers there not wanting to lose this sport. I dont know what to do for a fund raiser but im sure people can figure something out.

I wonder why the manufacturers don't get more involved with this stuff? When there is no sledding, quading, jet skiing left, they will be out of business. Did anyone else notice the bit about being able to hear a group of sleds from 20 miles away with the right conditions, I had to laugh at that bit of info.
