Check oil pump on 06 REV 800?

I have recently had one burn down and the mech said that the crank was toasted and a rod bearing as if it was run out of oil by the previous owner. Took out mag side piston and cylinder while at it. He said that the seal was slightly bad but not as bad as expected. The sled is new to me and I only had about 50 miles on it when I bought it.

My question is--how can I check to make sure that the oil pump is working correctly or is it pretty bulletproof? Could the damage have been done prior to my purchase and then my ride made it worse so that it blew? It is currently being fixed and the dealer and I are splitting the cost so I am not trying to point fingers. I just want to make sure that this never happens again.

Thanks for the input.

ya you can test it but it is very extensive and hard, you need to take a drill motor and spin the pump at a certan rpm while messuring the output for a specific amount of time. if your really worried about the pump itself being bad then just replace it, however a more likely cause could be a simple air buble in the line or the check valve on the tank clogged (this would not let air in and put a vaccum in the tank)
