Always look for gear closeout sales of last years gear, its a great way to get high quality gear at a lower price. Also, its the season of snow shows... usually vendors sell last years gear at blowout prices. Get to one and shop around if you can. That would also give you a chance to try it all on vs. buying blind online.

I also agree, don't skip out on boots and gloves. You'll be pretty bad off in the backcountry or on the trail or wherever if your feet and hands are numb.
