changing a gear

Can someone either link me to or give a good description of how to change my gear from a 39 to a 45. I'm getting a 45 and will be installing it as soon as it comes in. Stock chain will be used. I think I just loosen the chain tensioner, take off the nut holding the gear onto the shaft, slide the 39 gear off, then just slide the 45 back on the shaft and then tighten the tensioner to FINGER tight(then back off a tiny turn). does this sound accurate?. any tips or tricks to know about before hand?.. I'm sure theres a link but I can't find it. ANY help is appreciated. I was told that I probally wont need to change my clutching because of this, is this true?

Im no expert here but you may want to research the chain size to be sure. I would think going that much bigger on the gear would change your chain size as well. This is most definate if you keep the same top gear.

As far as procedure of swapping the gear you have it down. Its not very tough. I used the brake on the sled to hold the gear from turning while loosening the bolt holding it on.

YEP, Dont think your stock chain is going to be long enough! What top gear are you running? 19 or 20 you are probobly going to need a 74 pitch chain.

I would dump the 19 top gear and go to a 20/45 if your buying 2 of the 3 pieces might as well have a whole new set up. the 19 is hard on the stock chain, with the 20 on top it will last a lot longer. get a 15 wide top gear with a 15 wide chain and you can go 13 wide on the bottom gear.

Depending how tight the chain is on install, you may have to remove top gear also and then slide them both on at the same time. I have to do this on my KK when I change the chain out every fall.

if your closer then say 71.50 you need to move to 74p chain it is too tight to fit a 72p
