changed track looking for gearing input

as per a riding buddies idea i took a 3" 162 cut it down to 2.85 installed with avid 7 tooth drivers.
was running 2.86 pitch 2.5 extreme with 21 top 51 bottom gear and DJ clutching held 8200 climbing all day long.
anyway i figure if i can get the gearing right the clutching should stay good.
roughly 25% more paddle pushing than stock.
7 tooth 3pitch versus 8 tooth 2.86 = roughly 9% gear reduction
... so is it stock gearing = 9% reduction or 21/51 roughly 13% reduction ....

any suggestions

Robbie with avid runs his with 19/49 and 8 tooth drivers and his extended chaincase with a 3'' X 174. Was running it with stock motor and it was impressive.

On our 174-2.5 we geared down to 20/51 and it works very good. Unless speed is a big concern, no reason not to gear low IMO. Also running 7T Avids.

kind of what i was thinking a little lower might be better. it's definately not an asphalt drag sled. just want it to hold track speed while climbing in powder. i'm worried that if it is geared too low it will shift up too fast and never see peek rpm. if it's geared too high it will gear up slow and loose some of it's mid range snap. I will definately take a 20 tooth and a 49 tooth with me first trip but it sure would be nice to hit it right on in the summer. no tweeking when there's snow on the ground.
I definately do appreciate any feedback so thanks
