Chaincase Oil options

chaincase

I always have used either Lucas or atf I have even done a half and half blown one chain in 13000 miles and I think it was loose in real have snow

ER is Energy Release I have a case of Rev er up but have never used it, sounds like a challenge for my wifes sled

Which type of ATF do people use, Dextron or type F?

I used to get the best synthetic out there for $6 a quart ...

now I get any ATF I can but don't mix them cause the additive may combine and harden.

LET the ATF debate begin !!!

ER as mentioned is Energy Release I found it reduced the shavings in my chaincase by a lot, then I followed the instructions on the package for chaincase items and it made a huge difference. Basicly take your gears and Chain out and put them in an old pan like your wifey uses for making brownies. Then mix up some lube and the ER and heat the crap out of the whole works and make sure it gets to all the surfaces of the parts. 250 degrees rings a bell but not sure.

I had bought some ER from wahl racing, because my sled was a little low on snake oil. The brother told me they do this to all there race sled, if it oil impregnates the metal sure why not.

I just put 1 oz in the case. I would have to say that I had less shaving off those stock gear and chains and used the rest in a 300 6 ford.

IMO, the main reason for seeing fewer shavings, is simply the chain wearing on new gears, not a difference in the fluid used. Once they a have a few hundred miles, the chain is "fitted" to the gears to a certain point. Since my jeep transfer case uses ATF and also has a magnet in it, I have added magnets to everything. My Auto tranny pans, even my differential covers. It is amazing how much they attract.

xc700 is correct a rumage sale gets many a electric fry pan for $5.00 good to have around shop, get oil hot and we used to take the plastic out of every bearing and cook em in oil and ER, can add as much as 4 mph but it makes the bearings last almost forever, can't say forever cuz i never owned a sled for that long but have never replaced a wheel or chaincase bearing after this
