Chaincase lube

When I started this post I was referring to a chaincase on an 04 800CC AC 1M. I just changed the fluid and whatever was in there was thick. I used lower unit lube for an outboard. We are going tomorrow so will see how it works. This sled is new to me so that's why I was asking the question.

On another note I tightened the chain tensioner and the manual says when it gets hard to turn by hand that's tight enough. What the hell does that mean? Can you get it too tight?? What if it's too loose, any advice on this one??

Thanks

yeah you just want it finger tight, any tighter and you're putting stress on the bearings int the jackshaft and driveshaft. You'll know its too loose when your chain loses contact with the gears and tears all the teeth off. Check it often and keep it finger tight, then lock the locking nut down tight with a wrench to hold it there. On my 1200 I go finger tight plus a quarter turn, but this thing stretches chain like crazy, by the time I get to the hill its about right. Plus I do all my bearings twice a season.
