Wondering how often people replace there chain in the chanincase? 19 42 gearing on 2003 polaris 700 rmk

oil changed every year and checked every ride. Has not loosened up much this year and i think its the third year on the chain.

thanks

I have 7,700 miles on a 2003 VE UBR 900 which has a rediculous amount of WOT hillclimbs on N20 under it's belt. I'm still running on the original chain and gears. This may not be real smart but it goes to show how strong they really are.

I still have the original chain in mine. It has 1500 miles on it. I change the oil at the start of the season and check tension before every ride. My buddy changes his chain and gears every year. Who's to say which is better, but I do know if it breaks the repair ain't cheap. If you think about it, you should do it, no matter what the repair is.

The chaincase is different in my 2003 Vertical Escape but it has 4500 miles on it and I have never had a chain problem. I do change the grease twice a year and I never use the plug, I remove the cover so I can take a peek at how much wear there is. I think the weak link in yours may be the tensioner. There is a tread on here right now and two weeks ago a 2003 700 in our group broke its tensioner. I do think the reason tensioners break is because of the chain tension not being checked often enough.

a 19 T gear puts a lot of unneeded stress on the chain. Smaller bend radius, less tooth contact area, you may be surprised to see chain marks in the top gear with those miles.
