When adjusting chain tension should the adjustment bolt press against the roller braket or should there be a gap. I know that it is to be finger tight but when I adjust this bolt to finger tight it is about 1/2" from the roller bracket is this correct? I have tried to add a picture of wha I am asking.
Thanks

By the way it is 05 King cat stock gearing and chain. Not sure what model the picture is but the concept is the same.

You mean the adjuster does not touch the roller assembly? I don't think that is right, does not sound like it is doing much tensioning. Maybe your chain is streched?

You have to turn the jamb nut so it does not touch the case, then turn the bolt in until it is finger tight and then loosen a quarter turn, hold the bolt and tighten the jamb nut.

I did undo the jam nut before adjusting the bolt. I also cleaned the threads on the bolt. I am sure that the chain is streched some. It is the original chain with about 1400 mi. on it but it is in good shape. so should the bolt touch the roller bracket and the spring tension adjusts for stretched chain.

The bolt needs to touching the tensioner. Then the lock nut tightened so it does not back off.

Your picture shows the bolt needing to be screwed in about 1/2 inch then the lock nit tightened to keep it there.

threads are probably dirty in the chaincase would be my guess, cuz it should be touching the tensioner
