chain link question

alright, going from weak stock 13w gears to hyvo gears on the boosted toy i have. gearing that was there was 21/49.... im converting to 20/40 so how would i go about figuring out how many links of chain to add or subtract?

it seems pretty simple, but i know plenty of people have done it and could help me easy. the current chain has a really good curve in it for tension, not way over done, or to close to straight if its not a perfect match.

i dont remeber the current number of links as the chain aint in front of me. but in my mind it seems like i should drop 10 links with this setup.

i know you want to go to 20/40 to get your track speed up but if you plan on buying new gears and a chain anyways i would keep a big bottom gear in and put a bigger top gear in to compensate. if you stayed at a 49 bottom gear you could run a 24 top to achieve a 2.04:1 or a 25 to achieve a 1.96:1 ratio which is identical to your 20-40.

you need count or look up how many links are on your sled now with the 21-49 and add 3-4 links depending on which example setup above you would choose.

if i were you i would put in the largest bottom gear for best rolling resistance, compensate with the top gear for the ratio you want and get a chain with the least amount of slack possible to run that combo.

my 2 cents

very true for that... my issue is that the RT chaincase is VERY long stock. like at least 1" longer then the rev chassis, so it already has a very long chain, so i want to make sure i can run that stuff... i will throw the gears on it and see what kinda clearance i have, but the larger top does seem like the way to go.

and i can count the links when im back home. just down in bozeman the begining of the week right now. sister has to register at msu and im transfering and all. so yeah.
