Chain case oil???

Skidoo suggests using their chain case oil.
My question; is there a suitable and perhaps more easily accessible and less expensive alternative regarding the chain case oil?

Of course; Google is your friend. How much do you need to save per year on chain case oil?

I'd like to save enough so that I can provide food for myself, my 2 wives and my 12 children, and have enough left over for fuel for the 15 family snowmobiles. (I'm kidding of course!)

No.... it's not necessarily about saving money.
It's more so about the availability, the quantity that I can purchase in one container and the ridiculous price on the OEM oil, of which is manufactured by one of the major oil companies, and is then labeled Skidoo!

While I agree that this oil has specific properties, it can't be anything that far out of the ordinary.

IMO, ATF viscosity would be incorrect... (as in too thin).
Synthetic engine oil would appear to be OK.... but what viscosity (i.e., weight)?
Obviously we do not need a detergent oil since there would be no combustion bi-products within the chain case.

5w 30 synthetic motor oil works fine.

I buy Poo syn. chaincase oil, I get three oil changes for around the same price I'd pay for one change with XPS

Its been a while since I looked at the specs, but from my last set of notes, SkiDoo chain case oil had a Viscosity of 14.5 at 100 deg C. This Corelates nicely to 75W-90 Gear oil. ?w-40 engine oil is about the same Viscosity as well.

Polaris chain case oil had a Viscosity of 30.2 at 40 deg C. This Corelates to ATF viscosity and is thinner than engine oils.

Just for referance, Gear oil viscosity is 103 at 40 deg C.

What I'm still looking for is some info about Cat chain case oil. Don't know if it is thicker or thinner?

I've been using mobil 75W90 Synthetic gear oil for years. On the advice of local sled shop. Never had a chain issue. I pull the cover every year and check for wear.

Ams oil severe gear 75w 90w in the bag. Have been using it in my skidoo’s for 7 yrs over 2500km mtn mileag Per season.

I just use what ever sythetic chain case oil my distributor sells. Torco, Maxima, Klotz or whatever. Its a chain with a couple sprokets. Nothing new here.

How much oil in the chaincase?
I forget..
The XPS bottle is 12oz
That would be annoying if it it was a 14oz fill

You are absolutely right, very annoying. I just bought the 355ml bottle of oil from Skidoo and did the change on my '19 850 Summit. put it all in and waited for it to show up in the oil level plug hole and...........nothing.............nada, so now go and get some more and see how much more it will take, and yes my sled was sitting level on the shop floor, what a pain in the ass!!!!!
