Causes for boost guage flutter?

On my newly acquired RX-1, I noticed that the boost guage is fluttering. Do I need to check for exaust leaks ahead of the turbo? it fluctuates from 8-10 rapidly with the needle bouncing. Sled is running good as far as I can tell. Any suggestions would help, though I am planning to pull the entire exaust ahead of the turbo to check for leaks anyway. John

just so you that will eventually ruin your guage. to stop it from doing that get a 1/8 needle valve (aka snubber) from the hardware store and put it inline to your gauge, then adjust it so its as closed as possible without slowing the gauge responce.

Gauge

Dry Boost gauges are hard to make not flutter, The longer the line is to the gauge the less flutter you will have, But at the same time your response of the gauge will be slower. Oil filled gauges are the way to go, But about double the price.

Buy an liquid filled if you want to rely on a gauge that will work in all conditions. Most other gauges leak water eventually and freeze the internals anyway. My experience speaking as well as people I ride with.

I got the same crappy air filled auto meter boost gauge as you. If im running 18 pounds boost it will spike to thirty. There junk!!! Scared the hell out of me the first few times it happened and can make it a pain in the but for tunning.Its going in a box with the rest of the crap ive boughten over the last ten years. I ordered a liquid filled one and i recommend you do the same, there only about 80 to 100 bucks.Have fun with the sled.:beer;

about the only small draw back to the liquid filled gauge is that sometimes when the machine is shut off the gauge wont be on zero, you have to slide the gauge out and loosen the little screw on top of it to get it to let out some pressure. Usually happens when you change elevation.
