That man was lucky to have experienced people with him.
What % of the people out in the back country even practice with their transceivers... or even have one?
There was an avy death near Valemount this last winter... I read that a big % of the guys on scene didn't have beakons.

Truly amazing! That is most peoples worst fear when in the backcountry..
Definitely looking into the local avy training!

Thanks for posting. Everyone needs to see that

That's the real scary part. I think a lot of people are somewhat ignorant to avalanche danger.

Dunno about them, but i'd rather not be a statistic.

Now I will definitely not second guess my decision to buy a BCA Float 30 Pack for this year. It just cannot get here soon enough. Maybe I can talk the hubby into it too now. My life and his are just worth it.

I have taken 3 avy courses put on by the Black Tusk Snowmobile Club on Brohm Ridge in Squamish,BC. THey are 2 day courses and you spend 1 night in the chalet on the mountain. The instructor is a professional and experienced backcountry skier and avalanche technician. Very well organized and catered event. Contact the BTSC for more info.

Nauseating~!

Great post for early in the season and through out the year!

Crazy video. I kept checking the time on the video waiting for some one to get there. 4 plus minutes under the snow. I would think it would be over. I started looking up other avy videos on you tube before I went to sleep. Then I had some crazy dreams of me being stuck on a peak and the hole mountain dropped away under me.

I love to climb but that video reminds me why I'm not doing it like I used to when I was younger.

At 50, when I go, I want to go in my sleep, in my bed, not with snow jammed up my nose and mouth, gasping for air...despite it being what I love to do.

Wow, what a video. Thank the good Lord!
