Cat track weights

Was looking through the catalyst spec sheet and looking at the weight of the sleds. I’ve never weighed the 2.6 alpha track, but know it’s heavier than the 3”. According to the spec sheet the 2.6” tracked sled is 13lbs heavier than the same sled with a 3” track. That’s quite a weight penalty for just the track.

never weighed the tracks, I don't like the 2.6", feels like it is sawing instead of lifting in the snow. It does ride better in the catalyst chassis. I always was told 10lbs heavier?

That's about right. Was this way on the Ascender too. Cat lists the weight of the 154x2.6 at 62.2lb and 154x3.0 at 49.6lb for a 12.6lb difference. Way more rubber in the 2.6 tracks as they are 2.86P instead of 3.5P, have extra fingers between the big paddles, and are a stiffer lug.

Are they single ply like the 3.5" pitch tracks or 2 or 3 ply?

Interesting, never seen the dry weights published before.

Electric start adds 23 pounds. Dry weights for the 154/3.0 Cat without e-start are about 10 pounds less than the 154/3.0 Doo with SHOT. The comparable Poo is about 5 pounds lighter than the Cat.

They are all really close. Impressive.

I saw a video the other day where they weighed a Mountain Cat Alpha One 146 2.6 with electric start... full of fuel and oil it was 549 lbs. Then they pulled the battery and it dropped 15 lbs. So a lightweight battery is a must. Figure 23 for estart and 13 lbs for the 3.0 over the 2.6 and you go from 549 to 513... a a few pounds for the 154 3.0.

I got electric start in mine so an EarthX battery will be ordered ASAP. Turns out it uses the same one that I put in my Khaos.

146-2.6” alpha track weighs 59lbs. For reference, the Polaris 146-2.6 track weighs 44lbs. But the alpha is way more substantial lol. I do wish they made a 3.5” pitch 146. That would be sweet

Composit tracks started making a M770, 3.5" pitch, 147" track with 3" lugs. Not really applicable for the cat, but cool nonetheless. If cad made an alpha track that was like you said a 3.5" pitch with 3" lugs it would be killer.

I think Caleb Kesterke uses the Composit tracks. He used to have them on his website but I don't see them anymore. I had planned to get an M770 155 3.0 to short-track my 165 Khaos if I ever decided to go that far.
