Cat, Poo or Doo which factory will be the 1st.

With the 2009's already on the snow and snowchecks being available in 100day's, there's already rumors of a full blown 2 stroke turbo mountain sled becoming available....What has anyone else heard, and which factory is going to be the 1st to step up ?

I don't think Doo will be the one.....im sure Cat is tinkering..... Polaris seems to make some sense since they have experiance with turbo snowmobiles in the consumer marketplace.

Time will tell,

I know your question was referring to Mtn 2 stroke turbos but I do not believe any OEM's will come out with a mountain turbo before Yamaha does. If I had to choose between 2 strokes only my vote is Cat.

Polaris already had a 4 strock turbo 144 inch track on the showroom floor. I think the called it the swithback. Cat also has 4 stroke turbo as well used alot in yellowstone.

I don't think manufactuers will ever have a sled that makes more than 170-180 HP stock. Liability issues. The insurance companies will nail owners with high premiums.

I think they are gonna make what sells. We were saying the same thing when sleds got close the 125 hp mark and again at the 150 hp mark.....Time will tell...

Polaris has a very cool patent that they have never used. It's a snow cooled intercooler that's positioned where the close off heat exchanger resides. That would really clean up the underhood area on an intercooled sled. Makes perfect sense for a mountain sled too. I heard the name, Rocky Mountain Turbo.:D

2-Stroke Mountain Turbo? - Well, Polaris already has a trail/performance sled with a turbo, which is the Switchback. I think that Polaris or Cat will be the first with a mountain turbo. Im leaning on Polaris. If it does happen, more than likey, it'll only be a 600/800 Turbo that pushes out only 125hp (for a 600) or 160hp (for the 8). The Switchback Turbos push out the same amount of hp as the stock sleds in its class... Its gonna be interesting. :)

The insurance issue is something that could be legit that I didn't think about. If a company puts a turbo on a sled, they are going to face issues where the consumer is bumping up the boost and other issues where they can't maintain the reliability.

I;m thinking Yamaha but supercharged instead They just released a 1800cc-4 cylinder supercharged watercraft skidoo has had a supercharged unit for 5 years also turbos make alot of heat as do supercharged motors but its easier to map fuel for a supercharger

Pol dynoed a bunch of the new 800 Dragon engines. They stuck a turbo on one and put it through a bunch of set ups.

Word is....they did pull 600hp...for 30 seconds. LOL

I have a friend who's Dad is an Engineer for Arctic Cat back in Thief River. He told my friend to tell my brother who is considering an 08 M1000 to hold off till next year. He said it will definetely be worth the wait. He told him the same thing the year before the Arctic Cat Prowler came out when he was going to buy a Rhino. For what its worth.

With all current turbo's offered from the oem's currently being thumpers I do not believe that we will ever see a leaf blower on a 2-stroke. I think the number one reason will be durability and warranty purposes. Sleds are the only widely used machines offered with a warranty that have 2-strokes, the famous banshee had no warranty nor do the mx bikes. I think we will see some very exciting offerings from the oem's in the near future but they will involve thumpers and not 2-strokes.

My prediction is skidoo will be the first, but it will not run worth a darn because the belts will explode and the clutches will be burning hot and handwarmers ice cold. Polaris will be right behind but not deliver until the season is half over. Yamaha will put one out the year after but it will have 250 hp and weigh 900 pounds. And arctic cat who the f.....knows.....

Think more along the lines of what it would be like to have 160 HP of boost at 10,000 feet rather than having a 160 HP and than losing 30% of that HP at 10,000 feet.

Man many mountain rider would love to have 160 HP at 10,000 feet.

not sure I see it happening on a mountain sled from the factory anytime soon due to reliability issues. Some of them can't even get a naturally aspirated sled to last let alone figure out the clutching on a turbo when they can't even figure it out on a non turbo. It would be cool but I am not sure why they would not be spending their R&D money on a light 4 stroke first.

If they did come out with something I bet it would be a low boost model just designed to alleviate the HP loss from altitude. They would never mass produce something you had to run race gas in from the factory for the mountains.
