Cat models

Hello all, shopping for a new to me Arctic Cat, have about $5000 to spend. Just curious about some of the different cat models. The 1M, it can be a 600, 800, or 900? How is the 1M 900 different from the KingCat? I'm a bigger guy at 6'7, 250lbs and I'm thinking I want at least a 700, probably 800 or 900. I see M6, M7, and M8 models in the buy sell for around my price range. I assume these all have electronic reverse and the KingCat and 1M do not? Any models to avoid? I want at least 2003 or newer. I'm not too worried about the extra weight of a 900 but I sure do like reverse. I prefer the extra long tracks, at least 151", preferably longer. Thanks.

The electric reverse didnt come around till 07 or 08 cant remember. So not ALL m series have it. The king is different from the 1m 900 by. 3.0 pitch drivers and track on the king. titanium springs on the clutches and suspension on the king.
I am also a bigger guy (6'4 235). I love my king, I also have a 04 1m 900 that I have changed to a 162 track. It is EFI my king is carb. I would LOVE to dump the carb sled and get another EFI 900. My EFI sled runs circles around the carb sled. If It were me I would look for a 06 king cat. They were the ultimate king.

I have a 04 king as well and love it. We also have a 06 king but its not set up like mine so i rarely ride it. If i were you i would get a 04-06 king or anywhere from 800 up and make sure it has low mile or just get a M8

A '06 king, Or a M1000 would do for your size. I would recommend the King with a Boss seat at least, You will need a taller saddle!

Mike

if you find a deal you may find an M1000 for 5k, (sold an 08 1000 this year for 5500) An M1000 or an M8 with some work done would do well.

I know power is great to have, but I'd rather have the new chassis & work on some extra HP later if needed.

I've had two 03 1/2 900s. I'm 6'5" 250 and I hold my own with the lighter guys with newer sleds. If you look at the 03 or 03 1/2 models watch for a crack at the front of the tunnel, some were fixed under warranty fix some weren't.

I have seen Two Kingcats in the Wa. area

On craigslist a week or so ago. One in Yakima for $5,000 that said it had less than 10 rides on it. Very low miles! The second one was in Stanwood Wa. for $3500. It looked very nice also. The one in Yakima was black, the one in Stanwood orange. I looked twice at both. I hope you can find them. I just searched Arctic Cat. Good Luck, 00's

They are the same sled, so what year did Cat come out with electric reverse?

'09 is the first year with engine reverse.

The '07+ sleds are electric, but it's an electric solenoid locking a gear in the diamond drive.

03 kingcat

I had a look at a well-used 03 Kingcat yesterday. Actually it has no decals and the hoods been swapped and the kid has no idea if its a King or a 1M. Its an ex-hillclimber sled that was flogged by a dealership in town here. I see there are reinforcements welded in at the front of the tunnel on the inside where the cooler is. It has new pistons and seems to start and run well. However it does not idle at all. I took it for a ride and all seemed well but when I stopped the sled died instantly. The kid said "yah it does that, it has a mind of its own." It appears all stock but has a horrible looking (home-made?) stinger on it. The only reason I'm even considering it is he is willing to trade me straight across for my 98 chevy truck that has a blown motor. But I don't want to get into a money pit either. I could live with the hammered chassis if I thought the motor was rock solid. What would cause the machine to not idle at all? Crank seal? I talked to the previous owner and he said the carbs were rebuilt when the motor was done, something about needing new slides and a few other parts and pieces. It has a 159X2 finger track that is almost new. I'll post a link to the pics but it looks much better in the pics than in real life.

I would say it needs carb work, There is a dealership in billings MT selling new08 m1000 for $5,500. I wouldn't give more than $3000 for anything older than 05.

That sled is not a King Cat. Wrong belly pan, windshield, and track length. Kings were all 162s. Sled not idling is probably something to do with the carbs. Plugged pilot jets, idle set too low, floats set wrong, etc.

1m's are great sleds, but get an m8 or m1000. You'll have way more fun, and won't be wore out at the end of the day. The M chassis is lightyears ahead of the 1m as far as handling characteristics go.

i just traded my 06 king in at kent kawasaki.very nice sled 2000 miles on it,most of the miles where put on in hyder ak .and good news for you is i bought it new at wayside ac & harely in smithers.
