Cat M8 Vs. Yamaha Apex

Sorry but if your staying stock the M8 is a way better sled. The new 09 M8 will stomp a stock apex and is much lighter by about 150lbs with both full of fuel and everything. M8 for sure unless your going to turbo the apex. Whats sad is the 09 M8 full of fuel and oil is still 60lbs lighter than an empty apex.

Your not pushing yourself if you don’t get stuck ones in a while. You will get stuck sometime and you will hate the weight. Get the M8 until you can afford the turbo Apex. Then watch out!!!!!

Had a buddy that had an old Thunder cat. It was a blast until it got stuck.

I have both sleds, 08 M8 and a 06 Apex. They are 2 completely different sleds. If he is getting a newer M8, like 08 or 09 and he is not real experienced the M8 will be the better choice. After riding both alot last winter I started liking the Apex more, its more comfortable, also when you get used to the handling of the 4 stroke its awesome. The only powder I had the Apex in was when I got it in January, then a little in February. Mine needs the Xtreme Challenger track cause the Maverick wasnt good on any set up snow. I think with the track change the Apex will out do the M8. Mine has a Boss seat and different exhaust, and I put the Gen-2 skis on. And the engine on the Apex is sweet, it just keeps pulling, and it sounds cool also. The M8 is a quicker handling sled, and you likely could cut some tighter arcs with it. They are both awesome and you cant really apples for apples compare them.

M8 Easy. I've rode both sleds(my buds' sleds) and must say that the M8 was way more fun to ride. Easier to carve in powder, easy to throw around, had a good supply of horsepower, everything. Sure the Apex is a good sled if all you wanna do is skyrocket up hills and never wanna mess around in the trees, but when it came to carving around in power, before you knew it you were on your side wondering what the hell happened... It'll float pretty well when the powder is deep IF you're only going straight and not whipping around trees...The worst part is getting them unstuck..as the apex seems a ton heavier than the M8 when you dig it in, and i'm assuming because he is your "buddy" that you will be getting him unstuck when he digs a trench. Just my .02

What about a turbo M8 with some lite weight components compaired to the turbo apex with same lite weight components.

Sounds like the sleds sitting in my garage right now. D_Edge's M8 turbo is awesome, they both go over the top. In fact both the Apex Turbo and M8 turbo were the only sleds able to go over the top of a sketchy chute at the Valdez Hillclimbs last year. The Apex just does it faster. After riding both, the Turbo Apex (Front Mount) has more explosive throttle response as well. However, the M8 is lighter.

and with the M8 you still have and extra 10K in cash left in the bank.

Yep, your math does need a little work. It takes a 20K M8 to try and contest a 20K Apex. Turbo, clutching (174" Track rails exc.) Your right about the weight but you forget to figure the Apex is capable of substantially more hp. And theoretically a 4-stroke motor is going to be more reliable under boost.

LOL
apples and oranges. best bang for the buck i'll take the tm8. as for reliability who keep a sled for more then 3 years?
each to there own but i do a LOT of trees as some hills but not much of a point and shoot but will do now and then. just think the Yammahogs are great with a turbo but with out my f350 climbs about the same.

Obviously another guy who has never rode one for a whole weekend, let alone a few minutes probably, but has all the answers. For guys who have spent a season or more on them, it is obvious that you don't know WTH you are talking about. I never use my Apex for a point and shoot - NEVER and I put on over 1000 miles a year in the mountains of Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.

LMAO...guess what bud. I know where there is a bada$$ M8T on Craigslist. You can come check it out in my garage. And even though he hasn't directly admitted it to me I've got a hunch he's planning on building a Turbo Apex LOL.

And as for reliability, it's not about keeping the sled for 3 years, it's about sticking a cylinder in the middle of some of the stuff we pull....Can you say Yardsale.
