Ive been running my belt from last year which is a cat belt and discided to put a new belt on to break it in and all the suddened I noticed I lost 400 to 500 rpm and felt like I had no HP. Then I put my old belt on and it ran fine. My king cat never loses power but did with the brand new belt on. Is the new cat belts made out of different material? Same part number.
Thanks,Wes

Well if we had more info it would help, assuming this is on a m1000, cat makes a 046 belt (old belt and it is harder) and a 060 (stickier with more grip) The 060 will pull down rpm, its made to get better grip and the sled has to be clutched for the belt. If your clutching isn't perfect you will hate the 060 because it will heat up and really pull down rpm bad.

My experience with some after market belts is that they do not always interchange. On an 800 mc I put on an dayco which was for the 046 belt. put it on and it buried in the secondary. It was the same length only slightly thinner.

If its an M1000 wouldnt he be better off posting in the M series section! :P

When I bought my sled I bought a new belt (as a spare) and just chucked it in when I noticed the existing belt had a couple threads coming a bit loose (its now my spare).

It went in fine and never had a problem with it. That was 12 months ago and its still looking good. (touch wood)

KING CAT

as I see this it is a King cat am I correct or not?
the king cat had some clutch issues that needed to be delt with, and the belt will last longer. also the motor in most that i have worked on was not in line too. More belt problems here too. and if this is not set up right it will really affect it more when a new belt is put on.
is you drive clutch in good shape (serviced every 500 miles?) how is you drive clutch? (serviced every 500 miles?)
big motor need clutch work more often.
pm me for more info

It a 2005 King Cat 900 EFI 162. It also seemed it sets up in the secondary clutch higher then the older belt does. The new belt is a lot more flimsy, that would make since thats its stickier. So I will need to adjust my secondary with shims right? I will adjust the secondary spring forward to get more RPM then. Also how much sag should the belt have? If i adjust the bolt next to the air box that pushes on the secondary clutch shaft that will adjust the tension right? So with the new belts do I have to let it cool down more, somebody posted they get hot quicker this sounds ****ty to me.
Thanks,
Wes

So I just realized some of my problem which I am surprised It ran so good with my old belt. But I didn't have it shimmed right. I only had two inside shims between the sheaves and two between the out side of the sheaves and the shaft next to the air box. Im a idiots.

I just purchased a new 0627-020 for my 1M. I also noticed the design is totally different than the old ones I have had in the past. It is much more flexible and has much deeper cooling on the top of the belt.

I didn't run the belt because it was just a spare. I might need to toss it on and see how it acts. It could be totally different. It sure in the heck looks different and has EXACTLY the same part number from cat.

Looks like it came off the same mold as the M1000 belts.

I got a new -020 belt just like you are describing. I haven't used it yet but might throw it on this weekend to see if it performs any differently than the old design. If you end up using yours, post up on what you find. I'm interested in seeing if there is a difference.

You would think that if they changed the design they would do considerable testing on all machines that it is a part number for before releasing it wouldnt you? lol

I noticed the same thing at the dealer, The new has deeper and wider spread cogs. Much more flexible and felt lighter? I thought it was maybe mis-marked? We are waiting to hear how the new design works, if it doesn't work too hot I wonder if the dealer will take it back and exchange for the old design?

So I finally ruined my last good old belt and its time to put the new design on. I know I will have to re shim the secodary but how much? It sits alot higher in the secodary now. Has any one done this? also how low should the belt sit in the secondary? Any help would be awesome.
Thanks, Wes

I tried the new design belt (-020) on my 600 MC and it was super loose. I was able to put it on and off with ease (normally it is incredibly hard to change my belt). The belt felt squishy and really flexible. I didn't even need to push in the secondary. Needless to say, it was too loose to ride with. I do need to note that I have been running an -010 belt, but supposedly the only difference is in width, not overall length so that shouldn't have affected the looseness.

I would also like to know what it will take to run the new belt and its proper tension/deflection. Seems like my sled needs a lot of adjustment for this to fit.
