Castlegar Snowmobile Association

Just a reminder that the early bird rate of $50.00 for the 2009/2010 season ends on Dec 31, 2009. The annual membership as of Jan 1st is $60.00. You can purchase memberships at Playmor Power and at the Castlegar Complex front desk. Trail passes are $10.00 per day. Trail has already been groomed 7 times this year and the usage has been quite high. The new Mogulmaster works awesome! We are sitting at around 100 members so far with approx 50 of them being new members to the club. Nice to see the numbers steadily increasing every year. Once again I am taking names for an avalanche course and will have it set up if the demand is there. PM me if you are interested. Thanks for supporting the club and wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

The club is doing a great job. Had lunch with the boys in the Nourns cabin the other day, it was warm and awesome. Whoever burned the CD in the player is man after my own heart, good tunes. Great thing you guys got going up there. It shouldn't be taken for granted. Hope to see you guys upthere. Hitting it again tomorrow. EW

Heard that you were up a couple days ago-I think you hit one of the nice days above the cloud line. The last 2 days have really been socked in and today doesn't look much different! Gotta hate that flat light and the little suprises they seem to bring. Happy New Year to you guys and hopefully the weather breaks for you.

After the first time you guys groomed it I went down and bought a membership. That was like a highway to the Alpine.:D

Membership is at 120+ now-had the big rush on Dec31st to stiil catch the early bird discount-now up to normal $60.00 rate. Heard there is a good 20"+ of fresh up top this morning but visibility is on/off. Watch the bottom 3 km of the trail, there are sections of ice on the corners from there to bottom! Cheers.

Membership update

Things are going great this year with 132 members signed up so far. Thanks to all those who have been helping out by collecting at the trailheads! This club is what it is due to volunteers like you:) It is a strange year with very little snowpack left down low(heard there is 20+" of fresh up top yesterday with blue, blue skies today!!!:)) due to warm conditions and rain. Bottom 3-4 km are getting icy again - so be careful on the corners! The groomer was left at the sawmill landing(5 km up) due to low snow. Just installed new avalanche signs at both trailheads as a reminder to ensure people are aware of conditions. Still taking names for the mid Febuary introductory avalanche which is a minimum must have for anyone riding the backcountry. PM me if you are interested. Enjoy the season and ride safe.
Cheers:face-icon-small-hap

Jan 21st update

Membership is now up to 143 and still counting... Both Ladybird and Club side were groomed this week - quite a bit of fresh up top! Heard the weekend is supposed to be fairly decent weather wise. Bottom 3 or 4 km on club side still have icy sections - groomer was pulled back down to the parking lot and helped a bit with that problem....still be careful though! Volunteers will be manning the trailheads for passes and memberships over the weekend again. Please be aware of the snow conditions and ride safe.

Cheers

Feb 9/ 2010 update

Membership is now up to 155...and still counting. This is the largest year ever(120 - 130 last couple years) and hopefully this growing trend continues. I think the usage is probably about the same, just more people are starting to realize that supporting a club with a membership is key to preserving riding areas and getting good quality trails. It is a hard sell for fundraising/grants when you don't have decent numbers to show need/support. Thanks to all those who have joined up or paid the trail passes and to all those that make the club what it is.:hail: Sure is nice to hear all the positive comments! Club side trail at the bottom is still icy for the first 3 or 4 kms so be careful coming down. The new mogul master drag will be moved over to the Ladybird side to hopefully set a nice smooth trail this week- we're hoping that if we run the new one up and down to set a new trail that the old one will be able to maintain it. Amazing how much of a difference a proper piece of equipment makes! The avalanche course has been cancelled due to lack of interest-:face-icon-small-sad will try run again next year. PM me anytime and I will put you down on the list. Hear there is supposed to be some snow on it's way soon....:pray2: we need it! Safe riding to all.

Cheers

Update on trail system- The club side has a lot of dirt exposed all the way up to approx 2-3 km -fine for guys with sled decks/2 place trailers( have to disconnect to turn around). We seem to be about 3 weeks ahead of normal conditions...but still seems to be a decent snowpack up top. Trail was groomed last night and taken over the top to Ladybird side. Ladybird is holding up well and parking lot is only dirt so far! This will probably be the last time the club side is groomed for this season! (trail has been also holding up quite well and with access from Ladybird side now...also 2 snow bridges on club side will probably fail quite soon so it is safer to use other access). While grooming last night, Al met a party of 6 sledders who told of starting a slide/avy yesterday on the Ladybird side...2.5 - 3 foot slab broke away and scared the sh!t out of them. Please pay attention to all the warnings out there....play safe/ride smart! Thanks guys and enjoy the rest of the season.

Castlegar Snowmobile Association 2010/2011

Just a reminder that December 31st is the deadline for the earlybird(?) rate of $60.00 and then it goes to $75.00 for the season. Trail was groomed last Sat to the club cabin-probed about 2.5 feet there but had pretty good dump last night and should be still building with the rain in town. Heard of quite a few sleds clipping stuff so be cautious-its still early!
